In a steel-and-lead-encased bunker 20 feet below the basement level of his house, a soldier waits for his final orders. On the surface, a plague ravages the planet, infecting over 90% of the populace. The bacterium burrows through the brain, destroying all signs of humanity and leaving behind little more than base, prehistoric instincts. The infected turn into hyper-aggressive predators, with an insatiable desire to kill and feed. Someday soon, the soldier will have to open the hatch to his bunker, and step out into this new wasteland, to complete his mission....

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Yes. Its an ok book but I wouldn't listen to second one because its just ok and you have to forgive a lot.

Would you recommend The Remaining to your friends? Why or why not?

    No because its nothing special.

What three words best describe Christian Rummel’s voice?

    Its fine.

Was The Remaining worth the listening time?

    Yes

    Any additional comments?

Like a reader said on the type edition it is way to short and not just in length but in plot. This book only covers a few days and was stopped just to have another book. Major questions. People are about to die from lack of water and are going to toilet's for water. Minutes later we are washing in a stream behind the same house. Later other people need water but are showering with rain water they have collected. This is basically a month time period where probably 90 percent of the population is probably dead but already there is a major food shortage, huh?? Overall its ok but I want more than ok in a book so I won't go on to the second one.

In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue - Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is - she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

This book would be good for a teenager. I read reviews saying adults would enjoy it to but it really is just the story of teen first love. The other part of the plot went from good to ridiculous. Our heroine went from only being able to shoot enemies in the leg and only able to shot friends in the head. Then the ending made absolutely no sense as to what the character was going off to do after basically winning the biggest part of the war.

Before he was Oldtimer, he was Craig Emilson, a young doctor, sucked into military service at the outbreak of World War III. Enlisting to become a Special Forces suborbital paratrooper, Craig is selected to take part in the most important mission in American military history a sortie into enemy territory to eliminate the world's first strong Artificial Intelligence.

The mission is only the beginning of Craig's story, and for the story of humanity as well, as they accelerate toward a world that is posthuman.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

A different plot where it didn't turn in to ironman flying around. Not at all what I expected.
