When their village is attacked by trollocs, monsters thought to be only legends, three young men, Rand, Matt, and Perrin, flee in the company of the Lady Moiraine, a sinister visitor of unsuspected powers. Thus begins an epic adventure set in a world of wonders and horror, where what was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow.

    "Great books. Awful narrator"
    Overall

I read the 1st book before downloading the audio version. I recommend READING these books instead of listening. I have to agree with one of the previous reviews that the narration or overdramatic rendition is just over the top.

95% of Audio books ARE the narration. If you have good narrators they can often make a bad story wonderful. The acting and reading ARE what makes an Audio Book. Bad narrators make a classic even terrible. In this case the male actor exhaled at the end of every word or sentence and just drove me nuts. If he had only just relaxed and read it as a real person it would have been ever so much better. I tried to stick with it knowing the story but just couldn't bare it. I skipped through various parts and finally had to put it down.

Hopefully someone will reread this (please NOT Scott Brick again and again and again)such as Gerard Doyle, Simon Jones or someone else with a British voice and good character ranges who could make this much more authentic and enjoyable.

I cannot recommend downloading the rest of these wonderful epic books. Find the time to read them until someone decent re-records them. Otherwise its a huge waste of time and money.

Harry Dresden, Chicago's only professional wizard, is about to have a very bad day.… Because as Winter Knight to the Queen of Air and Darkness, Harry never knows what the scheming Mab might want him to do. Usually, it’s something awful. He doesn’t know the half of it… Mab has just traded Harry’s skills to pay off one of her debts. And now he must help a group of supernatural villains - led by one of Harry’s most dreaded and despised enemies, Nicodemus Archleone - to break into the highest-security vault in town, so that they can then access the highest-security vault in the Nevernever.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No. I lost interest when it continually got bogged down in all the analyzing of Harry's thoughts and actions.

If you’ve listened to books by Jim Butcher before, how does this one compare?

I have listened to all the other 14 books and they were fun. This one is just boring with the same tired jokes and monsters.

Have you listened to any of James Marsters’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Marsters does a good job as usual and has become the voice of Harry.

Did Skin Game inspire you to do anything?

Yes. Find something else to listen to.

Michael J. Sullivan garnered critical raves and a massive readership for his Riyria Revelations series. The first book in his highly anticipated Riyria Chronicles series of prequels, The Crown Tower brings together warrior Hadrian Blackwater with thieving assassin Royce Melborn. The two form a less-than-friendly pairing, but the quest before them has a rare prize indeed, and if they can breach the supposedly impregnable walls of the Crown Tower, their names will be legend.

If you could sum up The Crown Tower in three words, what would they be?

    Time well spent

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Crown Tower?

The developing relationship between Hadrian and Royce and the background to all the other characters. Makes Revelations a much deeper story so I am going to listen to the whole series again.

Which character – as performed by Tim Reynolds – was your favorite?

    Hadrian Blackwater

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes

    Any additional comments?

Audible PLEASE PLEASE hurry and get the 2 other books in this series. It is cruel to only give us just one :)

In 1919, Delano, Georgia, appoints its first chief of police. Honest and hardworking, the new chief is puzzled when young men start to disappear. But his investigation is ended by the fatal blast from a shotgun. Delano's second chief-of-police is no hero, yet he is also disturbed by what he sees in the missing-persons bulletins. In 1969, when Delano's third chief takes over, the unsolved disappearances still haunt the police files.

    Overall

The story is keeping me going on this since it is fascinating, but I may have to purchase it and read it instead. I am on the 2nd part but the narrator is driving me nuts. Slurring words so badly that I almost wondered if the narrator was inebriated, but am assuming it is just due to age. With such high ratings, I am surprised that it hasn't bothered others. If you are sensitive to voices and enunciation in reading, I think this will be an issue for you too, so listen to the sample and be forewarned.

    Overall

I really loved the 1st book, Name of the Wind, and this sequel started off quite well but was waaay too long. I was bored to tears during the Mercenary/Fae stories. And that dragged on and on. I tried to stay with it, but ended up fast forwarding through it. Plus the accent of the Mercenary people sounds like Lawrence Welk and really got on my nerves, but otherwise, I love the voices of all the other characters. The narrator is amazing. It's hard to believe that one person could so distinctly create all those voices. Really amazing. It picks up again, somewhat, in the last 6 hours.
I agree with other comments that an editor really should have cut this book down ALOT. Hopefully, Book 3 will be better and shorter.

    Waste of my time.

    Overall

I am a longtime fan of Connlley's books. Dick Hill is THE voice of Harry Bosch. Even when I read the books I hear his voice. And Dick Hill does a great job with the other character voices also.
Unfortunately, the narrator of this book is only reading the story. He has no character voice changes at all and drones on and on without any excitement or drama. Plus it is quite impossible to tell who is speaking. I couldn't even listen past the 1st 15mins. I tried to skip around to see if anywhere else it got better but it didn't. What a shame.
I will just have to buy the book and read it with Dick Hills voice in my head.
This was a waste of time and money.

The Dunnes have set off on a 10 day boat trip, a trip that hopefully will bring them closer together, despite the fact that the father, Stuart is staying behind on land. But just when things start to take a turn for the better, disaster strikes.

Extremely disappointing. Felt like this was the Brady Bunch at Sea. The female narration was just awful. Plus the pretentious cliches were even worse. Can't believe this was Patterson. Maybe he only wrote the forward. Total waste of time.

Why we think it’s a great listen: An all-time Audible favorite that mixes historic fiction, adventure, and romance with one of the most fascinating literary devices: time travel. Outlander introduces an exhilarating world of heroism and breathtaking thrills as one woman is torn between past and present, passion and love. In 1945, former combat nurse Claire Randall returns from World War II and joins her husband for a second honeymoon. But their blissful reunion is shattered....

I started to enjoy the first part, but after awhile it turned into a sappy soap opera. Way too long and I got tired of the woman time traveler's insecurities and whining, plus the constant arguments with the young Scot. I started cheering for the villan! It turned into a terrible waste of time. I gave up 1/2 way into part 2.

    "Waste of time and money"
    Overall

Worst book I have ever downloaded. Author trying to appear "hip and cool" with latest trends, "blogs", sudoku" etc and comes off as laughable, pretenteous, preachy and just plain ridiculous. Drifts off story constantly to preach morales or whatever pops into mind. Plus narrator is boring and uncreative with voices. At some parts she was just reading in monotone. I got 1/4 through and just turned it off and deleted from my library. Don't waste your money.
