In April 1940, the ninth Duke of Rutland died in mysterious circumstances in one of the rooms of his family estate, Belvoir Castle. The mystery surrounding these rooms holds the key to a tragic story that is played out on the brutal battlefields of the Western Front and in the exclusive salons of Mayfair and Belgravia in the dying years of la belle époque. Uncovered is a dark and disturbing period in the history of the Rutland family, and one which they were determined to keep hidden for over 60 years. Sixty years on, The Secret Rooms is the true story of family secrets and one man’s determination to keep the past hidden at any cost.

Along the way, listeners learn how to protect themselves both immediately and long-term - as well as how to recover from the trauma of being close to such a destructive force.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Condense it down. Way too wordy and repetitive. The same thing was said over and over. It was like he wrote a report for the FBI and decided to make a book out of it.

Would you be willing to try another one of Stephen Hoye’s performances?

    The characters are well developed

What three words best describe Alex Jennings and Emilia Fox ’s performance?

    Acceptable

    Any additional comments?

This was definitely not as good as the prequel The story was predictable and boring. Only Time Will Tell was almost written like a classic. Characters were developed and interesting. This was just a story not very interesting and does not make me wast to get the next book in the series.

Part biography, part cultural history, The Creation of Anne Boleyn is a fascinating reconstruction of Anne’s life and an illuminating look at her afterlife in the popular imagination. Why is Anne so compelling? Why has she inspired such extreme reactions? What did she really look like? Was she the flaxen-haired martyr of Romantic paintings or the raven-haired seductress of twenty-first-century portrayals? (Answer: Neither.) And perhaps the most provocative questions concern Anne’s death more than her life.
