Nine of us came here. We look like you. We talk like you. We live among you. But we are not you. We can do things you dream of doing. We have powers you dream of having. We are stronger and faster than anything you have ever seen. We are the superheroes you worship in movies and comic books—but we are real.

"Good idea but overly dramatic writing style"
    Overall

I found myself moaning as the main character would describe the world around him. Perhaps I am simply a little too old for this book, but it seemed that everything was very literal, black and white and that every experience was either the end of the world or the most amazing joyous experience ever. Kind of like listening to a teen, I suppose.
Still, I was interested and will likely try the second book when it arrives.

Liam Mulligan is as old school as a newspaper man gets. His beat is Providence, Rhode Island, and he knows every street and alley. He knows the priests and prostitutes, the cops and street thugs. He knows the mobsters and politicians--who are pretty much one and the same. Someone is systematically burning down the neighborhood Mulligan grew up in, people he knows and loves are perishing in the flames, and the public is on the verge of panic.

Although this may have a wonderful story, I cannot fully comment. I admit to being an unusual reader. I greatly dislike vulgar speech. The F word repeated so often does make any book for me virtually unreadable. I made it through a few hours, then stopped. I realize I am not the audience for this book, but I personally appreciate it when someone else writes a review that comments on such strong language.

When Olivia Bevelstoke is told that her new neighbor may have killed his fiancée, she doesn't believe it for a second, but, still, how can she help spying on him, just to be sure? So she stakes out a spot near her bedroom window, cleverly concealed by curtains, watches, and waits . . . and discovers a most intriguing man, who is definitely up to something. Sir Harry Valentine works for the boring branch of the War Office, translating documents vital to national security.

    Story

I had hoped that the story would include more intrigue and suspense. I listened to this with my wife, and could tell from the summary that there would be romance, but it was more of a romance and less of a story about mistaken identities, intrigue, suspense, etc.

In the small city of Strattenburg, there are many lawyers, and though he’s only 13 years old, Theo Boone thinks he’s one of them. Theo knows every judge, policeman, court clerk—and a lot about the law. He dreams of being a great trial lawyer, of a life in the courtroom. But Theo finds himself in court much sooner than expected. Because he knows so much—maybe too much—he is suddenly dragged into the middle of a sensational murder trial.

    Story

The story is interesting, but written in simple fashion for teens or younger. I was glad I could safely listen to it in the car with my kids, no foul language or offensive material. It was a little too simplistic to enjoy on my own as much as other Grisham novels. Overall worth the time, enjoyable.
