Thousands of autonomous computer programs, or daemons, make our networked world possible, running constantly in the background of our lives, trafficking e-mail, transferring money, and monitoring power grids. For the most part, daemons are benign, but the same can't always be said for the people who design them.

Where does Daemon rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

One of the best audio books I have listened to, more so for the story than for the delivery of it.

What other book might you compare Daemon to and why?

Colossus / the Forbin Project, an older Sci-Fi Movie with tangential but certainly not identical themes.

What does Jeff Gurner bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His delivery is very good although as with every audio book I hear, I find myself craving the delivery of audio theater with individual actors/actresses for the roles within the story. I would pay the premium that would require. I think it is inevitable as the audio book juggernaut continues to grow that this medium will begin to go that way and can only benefit from it.

    Any additional comments?

This book is for people male and female, who have an understanding of technology. If you don't have some grasp of how to turn on your computer then you should not buy this book. Conversely for those who's lives are intertwined with computers and networks, this book is awesome in its grasp of the possible and contemporary. Every civilization has it's apex and this book describes a plausible end to ours and a new beginning (need to read Freedom as well to appreciate what I am saying).

LAPD cop Scott James is not doing so well, not since a shocking nighttime assault by unidentified men killed his partner, Stephanie, nearly killed him, and left him enraged, ashamed, and ready to explode. He is unfit for duty - until he meets his new partner. Maggie is not doing so well, either. The German shepherd survived three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan sniffing explosives before she lost her handler to an IED and sniper attack, and her PTSD is as bad as Scott’s. They are each other’s last chance.

What made the experience of listening to Suspect the most enjoyable?

A well crafted yarn with well developed characters, what more can you ask for?

Who was your favorite character and why?

The dog was so well written. If you own dogs and more specifically shepherds it is clear that Crais either also does or really did his homework. He really brought both the main characters alive for me and I didn't want the book to end. I hope he writes a new adventure for this team.

    Any additional comments?

Yes buy this if you like animals and detective yarns.

When her new life on a tranquil island is shattered by a brutal attack, Jet must return to a clandestine existence of savagery and deception to save herself and those she loves. A gritty, unflinching roller-coaster of high-stakes twists and shocking turns, Jet features a new breed of protagonist that breaks the mold.

What was most disappointing about Russell Blake’s story?

Highly formulaic but with characters that are unrealistic and 2 dimensional. This will probably be the first time I look for a refund.

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

  • 11-22-63: A Novel

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Sure but I would warn them that it is overly verbose. It could have been half as long and told the same story adequately.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

    Predictable x 2

Have you listened to any of Craig Wasson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    No

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

JFK, nobody is really trying to figure it out properly but here is a pretty good love story packaged around it.

    Any additional comments?

A good read but a little too fat around the edges but that is Stephen isn't it?

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

People who believe that Aliens will arrive speaking English. I'm not one of them.

What was most disappointing about Greg Bear’s story?

People of faith are automatically crazy. As already mentioned Aliens arrive speaking English.

What aspect of Stephen Bel Davies’s performance would you have changed?

    Drags

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

disappoinment amd annoyance, if I had known what it was really about I could have avoided wasting my money.
