In Hold Me Tight, Dr. Johnson shares her groundbreaking and remarkably successful program for creating stronger, more secure relationships. The message of Hold Me Tight is simple: Forget about learning how to argue better, analyzing your early childhood, making grand romantic gestures, or experimenting with new sexual positions. Instead, get to the emotional underpinnings of your relationship.

Anne Marie says: "Unique book for couples and therapists"

If you could sum up Hold Me Tight in three words, what would they be?

    Good constructive info

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The Narrator is one of those frustrated actors who tries to do voices. All of the men's voices sounded like a throat-singer. It would have been laughable if it hadn't been so distracting. Completely destroyed the book. This should be re-recorded.

    Any additional comments?

A really great method for looking at relationships. Shame it was unbearable to listen to.

    What disappointed you about #STRESS?

Complete Garbage. Nothing more than the author's illiterate, rambling thoughts. No basis for any of it. And most sixth-graders have a better grasp of fundamental grammar than the author. Even on sale at $2, I feel ripped off.

Worry consumes time and energy, too often isolates us from friends and family, and prevents us from solving the real problems that are behind the act of worrying. Dr. Edward M. Hallowell makes clear the crucial distinctions among the various forms of worry, showing which are protective and productive, which handicap achievement and pleasure, and which seriously threaten physical health and mental balance.

Nothing concrete, other than the obvious.

Would you ever listen to anything by Edward M. Hallowell, MD again?

    Nope

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Audible must make these narrators stop doing voices. Look, I get that you're a frustrated actor, and this is the best you can do to make ends meet, but stop doing the voices. They are annoying and make the experience so frustrating it's impossible to concentrate on the book.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Anger-see my comments about the narrator

Each day we face a barrage of images and messages from society and the media telling us who, what, and how we should be. We are led to believe that if we could only look perfect and lead perfect lives, we'd no longer feel inadequate. So most of us perform, please, and perfect, all the while thinking, What if I can't keep all of these balls in the air? Why isn't everyone else working harder and living up to my expectations? What will people think if I fail or give up? When can I stop proving myself?

Would you consider the audio edition of The Gifts of Imperfection to be better than the print version?

No, because you have to listen to that awful reading

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Gifts of Imperfection?

Excellent scientific basis for her conclusions

What didn’t you like about Lauren Fortgang’s performance?

Completely destroyed the authenticity of the author. The author is down-to-earth in the audiobooks she reads herself. This reader makes the whole thing sound flaky.

If your partner: seems irritated or angry at you several times a week, denies being angry when he clearly is, does not work with you to resolve important issues, rarely or never seems to share thoughts or plans with you, or tells you that he has no idea what you’re talking about when you try to discuss important problems…you need this audiobook.

What didn’t you like about Laural Merlington’s performance?

Sounds like a female version of Hans Moleman

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

A lot of nothing. No useful tools, techniques, just a litany of gynocentric (yes it's a word) examples. The countless quotes from letters she has received from readers add nothing to the text except to extend the hours wasted.

What could Hal Edward Runkel and Jenny Runkel have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Way too much time wasted at the beginning telling you what was coming......followed by very little actual substance

    Any additional comments?

The letter 'L' in the word calm is silent. Might seem trivial, but the whole premise of the book is to 'calm down', so it became pretty annoying after a while.

What disappointed you about In Need of Love: Anxiety, Depression, and My Personal Battle for a Life With Meaning?

Why would I want to waste 3 plus hours of my life listening to some adolescent rant about how bad his parents were?

What could Alex Fischler have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Where was the 'finding meaning' part?

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

    None.

We have all experienced anger at one point or another, and for some it may be a regular emotion. It can be as simple as a minor irritation or as complex as full-fledged rage. The human emotion of anger is completely common and perhaps, could even be considered healthy and normal. The trouble sets in when the anger is out of control and actually turns negative and destructive. You can have issues in your various personal relationships, your job and in your life's overall quality.

The author is functionally illiterate. Almost every paragraph has grammatical problems - most of them basic errors which should never have made it to publication. Brutal

    Any additional comments?

The stories are interesting, but the rest of it was excruciating.

He sounds like Wilfred Brimley. Kind of amusing.
