Hours of great listening! My kids (8 and 11) and I started listening to the adventures of Peter and the Starcatchers in the car. They became so hooked (no pun intended:o)they insisted we keep listening mornings at breakfast before school and when cleaning up after dinner. We really enjoyed each of these books and have moved on to the Never Land series. These books worked for me and now my kids love to use their imagination listening instead of watching movies in the car.
Our sincere appreciation to the very talented Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson for this gift, excellently narrated by my favorite Jim Dale.
Do your kids a favor, turn off the TV, turn off the video games and turn on their imagination by listening to a really good Audiobook.
Glad to hear Mike and Sean Runnette are back in the saddle again! Sean is an excellent narrator. I've enjoyed all the Tufo books I've listened to and looking forward to hopefully having the pleasure of doing so again in the future.
If you were a fan of The Blade Itself then you will enjoy this book. Abercrombie and Pacey are back in action again. This is not for kids or the faint hearted, an excellent tale well delivered by an excellent narrator. I pre-ordered this book and am very pleased with my purchase. Many thanks to the author and narrator and I hope to hear more of the same.
I agree with some of the other comments, the narration is different and not equal to the previous books, but I'm glad I wasn't deterred and enjoyed this listen. The difference is as if Roy Dotrice had 20 different voices for the various characters in the previous three books and only 10 or so in this one. Several of the voices sound similar and it is as if he no longer has the capacity or range, but he's still very good. I've always said it's the narrator who breaths life into an audiobook, if Roy hadn't narrated I would have been disappointed. His performance is more than acceptable, it's not perfect but who's is and this is a good book. I'm pleased at least some producers seem to (finally) understand the necessity for continuity. I have no complaints moving on to the next in this series it has been an excellent adventure so far, enthralling! Many thanks to Martin, Dotrice and the producers.
I thought I wasn't going to enjoy this book due to the narration. Having finished the First Law series thought the narration just wouldn't jive. So i gave it a few months, it was still a big change but worth the wait and after a few hours was able to sink into Michael Pages style and overall the book turned out to be a very good listen. I was completely hooked by First Law and in this book surprised at some of the changes in the characters but definitely I am a big fan of Abercrombie and most likely will treat myself to Best Served Cold also narrated by Page. Thanks to both Joe and Michael and of course Audible for this book and presentation. Looking forward to this authors future publications.
I enjoyed this book immensely, even more than Consider Phlebas and I really hope that Peter Kenny will narrate Use of Weapons, The State of the Art and especially Excession of which I've heard great things. Please release these books on Audible. The Culture Series is fantastic. Thanks to Banks for this work of art and Kenny for narrating. If you enjoyed The Player of Games then please take a moment to write the publishers or contact audible and ask them to release the rest of the series on audio.
Many thanks to Joe and Steven for another work of art! I loved the first two, rushed into the third and it was everything one could have hoped for. Thanks, the narration by Steven made this series and brought the characters to life and provided a required continuity between these great works.
The Skinner was a great story, happy to be moving on to Spatterjay, book 2, The Voyage of the Sable Keech. Many thanks to Neal Asher for this.
Having read some of the positive reviews I purchased this book and I have been caught hook line and sinker by this very well written story. A simple review could not do this book justice. Joe has woven a splendid tale that draws one in and the narration was brilliantly done, excellent dramatization with a vast diversification of the characters voices, there couldn't have been a better studio recording of same. Relishing the thought of several more hours ahead as the story continues I'm moving on to the second book in this Trilogy. Many thanks to Joe and Steven for this creation as they compliment each other very well.
Nothing quite like tucking into some Reynolds when narrated by John Lee. They are both excellent! I was easily drawn into this really great story. Many thanks to those who made this treat possible.
My kids ages 9 and 12 really enjoyed this book, so many thanks. It is creative and entertaining and definitely for kids, also grown-ups with lots and lots of patience. Listening to kids books with my kids is a lot of fun, sometimes even more fun than listening to my own books. My kids really loved this book. For grown ups after the thousandths time of imminent danger being upon them with no possible way out... well it would be nice if the author followed his own boundaries of the world he's created. Very well narrated good ideas suggest you give it a try.
