World War II has finally come home to Britain, but it takes more than nightly air raids to rattle intrepid spy and expert code breaker Maggie Hope. After serving as a secret agent to protect Princess Elizabeth at Windsor Castle, Maggie is now an elite member of the Special Operations Executive–a black ops organization designed to aid the British effort abroad–and her first assignment sends her straight into Nazi-controlled Berlin, the very heart of the German war machine. Relying on her quick wit and keen instincts, Maggie infiltrates the highest level of Berlin society, gathering information to pass on to London headquarters. But the secrets she unveils will expose a darker, more dangerous side of the war–and of her own past.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Maggie Hope is a delightful character. Intelligent, skillful, determined, and pretty without being hung up on her looks. She is very easy to relate to because she voices real emotion, thoughts and feelings.

What about Susan Duerden’s performance did you like?

I have listened to all of the books and the first one had a different narrator, so I was disappointed when I found that they changed the narrators - that is until I listened to her. Although the narrator for the first book was good, I found that when I listened to Susan Duerden, I could identify the characters based off the voice she was using for them. It was very expertly spoken.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, it is but there just are not enough hours in the day. I can not wait for the next book to be released.

    Any additional comments?

If you are a fan of the spy/mystery/1920's era novels, this series is a must. I appreciate the intelligence of the characters and did not feel that that the novel slowed as some do when over describing technical details. I bought the first audible book in the series because it was recommended to me based off other purchases. After the first read, I quickly purchased the other 2 and I am certainly glad that I did.

Susan Elia MacNeal introduced the remarkable Maggie Hope in her acclaimed debut, Mr. Churchill's Secretary. Now Maggie returns to protect Britain's beloved royals against an international plot - one that could change the course of history. As World War II sweeps the continent and England steels itself against German attack, Maggie Hope, former secretary to Prime Minister Winston Churchill, completes her training to become a spy for MI-5.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would absolutely recommend this book. I don't write many reviews but I enjoyed this series so much, I felt that it was important to tell others about it.

What other book might you compare Princess Elizabeth's Spy to and why?

I don't know that there is another female heroine that is as intelligent, determined and "real."

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This book is intriguing. It makes you want to turn the page to hear what will happen next. Many times you read a spy novel and the spy is just there, you don't put much thought into how they became a spy, what training was necessary, what thought processes the person goes through - I have no idea if the information is 100% accurate in the novel but it really, doesn't matter, it gets you thinking about a spy novel from a completely different - completely enjoyable angle.

What made the experience of listening to Frozen Heat the most enjoyable?

I very much enjoyed the reading and the story line of this boook. I have listened to all of the Richard Castle books on Audible and find them to be the right combination of mystery, excitement and passion. Each book's story line moves quickly enough that there are no dull moments.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I enjoy the character of Nikki Heat because she is a strong yet vulnerable female who is thrust into a male dominated environment. She is a believable character with flaws and values that appeals me.

Have you listened to any of Johnny Heller’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Johnny Heller is an excellent narrator, he has performed all of the Richard Castle books and his voice seems the embodiment of the characters in the book. He accomplishes bringing the characters to life effortlessly. I have not had the opportunity to hear him perform a different series.

    Any additional comments?

The book ended too soon. And I look forward to the next in the series because there is no way you can leave a book that open ended without follow up.
