A good book about alien contact and it goes into the depth to which we would likely misunderstand anything that would be alien. Well written with a fair amount of societal and structural understanding. Not as much of a War In Space book as I was concerned about, good mix of military and social sci-fi. Recommended with only slight reservations.
This book was well done. Though a bit odd this has been one of the most enjoyable books I've listened to in quite a while. It leaves questions unanswered. It has aliens who are actually alien. It lays out a good visual world where things don't happen overnight but also you don't feel like you are reading about the 3 months of boredom that is happening. A very good pick overall.
The basics of the story (strong young man comes in and saves primitive but good people upsets the world as we know it) are not exciting but the story is mostly well done. The world is well created and the detailed. The book doesn't feel dated as many sci-fi books often feel. Well done as an audiobook as well, great narration.
I didn't really enjoy this book but could easily see how others would really like it and get a lot out of it. If you are looking for a book that explores the Catholic Church from a very critical but loving point of view thru hard sci-fi this book may be for you. But if you don't really care to deeply and critically spend a whole book exploring the depth of the Catholic Church and the way it interacts with the world and itself then skip it.
