Miranda Puckett has failed at every job she’s ever had. Her mother just wants her to come home, join the family law firm, and settle down with Jason, the perfect lawyer boyfriend. But when Jason turns out to be a lying cheater, Miranda seizes on a job that gets her out of town: long-distance vampire transportation. Her first assignment is to drive vampire Collin Sutherland from Washington to sleepy Half Moon Hollow without incident—no small feat for a woman whom trouble seems to follow like a faithful hound dog!

  • The Unremarkable Heart and Other Stories

    • UNABRIDGED (4 hrs and 13 mins)
    • By Karin Slaughter
    • Narrated By Shannon Cochran

Collected in one volume-and on audio-for the first time, The Unremarkable Heart and Other Stories features bestselling author Karin Slaughter at her best: dark, provocative explorations of love, death, and the secrets we keep. This exclusive audiobook contains the previously published tales The Unremarkable Heart, The Blessing of Brokenness, Necessary Women, The Mean Time, Cold Cold Heart, and the never-before-seen story The Truth About Pretty Girls.

    Amazon Customer says: "Horrible!"
    "Just not right at ALL."

I really had a problem with this collection of short stories. I know the job of an author is to evoke emotions in the reader, but I'm not sure what she was going for here. If it was to make me feel sick to my stomach and depressed, I guess she got it right. I actually believed the stories must be written by someone who hates women.

I stopped listening to the book after 3 of the short stories. The first story was marginally better then the rest. In a way I wish it hadn't of been, because I kept listening. The second was terrible and wrong... I think I was too stunned to turn the recording off. But it was the third short story what really killed me. The fact that character, who worked in a church and knew God's teachings, would feel that God would want her to give herself a "back alley abortion" was just horrible. It goes against all that I hold dear and hopefully a lot of other, but I'm not sure because the book still has a high star rating. (Just in case, I'm not a bible thumper by any means. Killing a baby in any form is wrong. And the reason she does it seems wrong. She says it is because she doesn't have insurance for the medical bills! She could contact an number of adoption agencies and find a family willing to help her. Sorry I could keep ranting, but it is pointless anyway.)

The narration was done well. Another reason I kept listening... but really shouldn't.
