The town of Grizzly Falls is on edge in the wake of a serial killer, and Detective Selena Alvarez is no exception. That case was solved, but a new nightmare is about to unfold. There are two victims so far - their bodies were frozen solid and deliberately displayed. Both are women she knew. And each wears a piece of Selena’s jewelry…. Selena’s partner, Detective Regan Pescoli, and the entire department are on the case, as is P.I. Dylan O’Keefe - a man Selena got too close to once before.

From 1999 to 2009, U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle recorded the most career sniper kills in United States military history. The Pentagon has officially confirmed more than 150 of Kyles kills (the previous American record was 109), but it has declined to verify the astonishing total number for this book. Iraqi insurgents feared Kyle so much they named him al-Shaitan ("the devil") and placed a bounty on his head.

I'm glad that I listened to this audio book, and did not let the negative reviews stop me from purchasing this.
With all the hype out there with the movie (I have not seen it), I wanted to hear it for myself and make my own judgement on this story. Being the daughter of a veteran, I am 100% a veteran supporter.
I can not imagine what horrors our veterans saw/see, so I can not even think of making a judgement about what Mr. Kyle did and how or why he did it.
All I can say is "THANK YOU" for your service to our country and GOD bless your family, as my sympathies are with them for their loss.

The last time Sophie saw sexy P.I. Anatoly Darinsky, he practically danced a jig when she waved goodbye; a normal reaction for a man who'd nearly bought the farm trying to protect her from her own foolishness. What are the chances he'd agree to take incriminating pictures of her sister's philandering husband? Or that he'd let her tag along, you know, for research?

Won't continue with this series of books, just totally lost interest in the characters. None of them have a drop of common sense. Its hard to find total stupidity amusing for any length of time

Thriller scribe Sophie Katz is as hard-boiled as a woman who drinks Grande Caramel Brownie Frappuccionos can be. So Sophie knows it's not paranoia, or post-divorce, living-alone-again jitters, when she becomes convinced that a crazed reader is sneaking into her apartment to reenact scenes from her books. The police, however, can't tell a good plot from an unmarked grave.

What did you love best about Sex, Murder, and a Double Latte?

Great one liners, and wise cracks... but still could be serious.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Anatoly Darinsky and every interaction with Anatoly!

Which character – as performed by Gabra Zackman – was your favorite?

Gabra Zackman made this book. She did such a great job narrating that I forgot about the narrator and just enjoyed each character.

Would you try another book from Bailey Cates and/or Johanna Parker?

I like Johanna Parker, but felt some of the reading seemed rushed. This book seemed so similar to the books I've listened to by Juliet Blackwell (Witchcraft mysteries). There is Aidan/Steve, Sailor/Declan, The Coven, New witch who is "Special", Oscar/Mongo..............

Did Brownies and Broomsticks inspire you to do anything?

It made me look up several writers on the internet to see if Bailey Cates was a pen name for Juliet Blackwell.....

    Any additional comments?

Moving onto the 2nd in this series with a different narrator, which is disappointing.

Word has spread that contractor Mel Turner can communicate with the spirits of the dead, and she's having a hard time maintaining a low profile. She decides to embrace her reputation for the chance to restore a historic house that calls to her. The new owners, who hope to run a haunted bed-and-breakfast, want Mel to encourage the ghosts that supposedly roam the halls to enhance the house's paranormal charm. The catch: Mel has to spend one night in the house to win the project.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Spend more time developing the additional characters, like Mel's father, his best friend, and the step son. I just love Mel's father, and would love to see more of him other than cooking dinner or breakfast. Xe Sands voice given to Mel's father makes him come alive and makes me want more of him!

What was most disappointing about Juliet Blackwell’s story?

Mel is frustrating with always doing what she wants when she wants and never giving a thought to anyone else. The romance part of the book with Graham is worthless, either have a bit of romance or leave it out all together. A kiss per book is ridiculous.

What aspect of Xe Sands’s performance would you have changed?

    I like Xe Sands

Melanie Turner has made quite a name for herself remodeling historic houses in the San Francisco Bay Area. But now her reputation may be on the line. At her newest project, a run-down Pacific Heights mansion, Mel is visited by the ghost of a colleague who recently met a bad end with power tools. When she tries it on, Lily sees awful visions from the past. And when the antiques dealer who sold her the cape is killed, Lily suspects a supernatural force might be behind his death. Then Lily's familiar, Oscar the potbellied pig, disappears. Lily will do anything to get him back - including battling the spirit of a powerful witch reaching out from the past.

Would you listen to A Vision in Velvet again? Why?

probably will listen to the entire series again at some time.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

A bit disappointed. A lot of buildup and then a quick finish.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I have no problem with the narrator.

    Any additional comments?

Not sure if there will be another book in this series, but I hope there is. Think the "power" Lily acquired in "Tarnished and Torn" needs more development, as well as the herb classes and an alliance with Aiden.

When Lily arrives at an antique jewelry fair, her bargain sensors go off left and right - but she also picks up a faint vibration of magic. Could the hard-bargaining merchant Griselda be a fellow practitioner? It certainly seems that way when a sudden fire sends panic through the crowd, and Lily discovers Griselda murdered in a way that nods to an old-fashioned witch hunt. A crime that hits close to home turns into an unwelcome flash from the past when the police bring in their lead suspect - Lily's estranged father.

In return she's been promised a trunkful of Victorian-era clothes recently discovered in a school storage closet. But Lily finds something else: the body of a wealthy patron of the school. In between running the store and seeing her new boyfriend, Max - a "mythbuster" who is uncomfortable with her witchcraft - she uses her sleuthing skills to try to solve the murder. Soon Lily senses something from the school's vintage clothes, but it's not the smell of mothballs - it's the unmistakable aura of evil intent.
