Available to download for the very first time, the fantastic Inspector Appleby series by celebrated crime writer Michael Innes.Appleby's End was the name of the station where Detective Inspector John Appleby got off the train from Scotland Yard.

    "Very Funny!"
    Overall

Not what was expected, but one of the most fun mysteries I've ever encountered. This writer can meander around a little, but then right in the middle of it all are these sly little zings. You have to have the right sense of humor to get this writer, but the wit is outstanding. If a person needs a protagonist with a lot of drama in their personal life and gory crime scene descriptions to be happy, this book is decidedly not for them. It also helped to have read another of this author's books beforehand as there are a few surreal moments in this one. This is probably the best one of those already recorded, and I do hope they make more. I gave it a 5 because for those of us who really enjoy Innes' dry sense of humor it is a gem!

This first installment of a cozy mystery series transports listeners back to the bygone era of 1923 Britain, where unflappable flapper and fledgling journalist Daisy Dalrymple daringly embarks on her first writing assignment, and promptly stumbles across a corpse.

What made the experience of listening to Death at Wentwater Court the most enjoyable?

It was fun! Oh, and I liked the ending!! I was yelling at the characters as to who the culprit was way sooner than they had caught on, but the resolution caught me by surprise. Usually the murderer just kills himself. Sorry if that gives too much away.

What other book might you compare Death at Wentwater Court to and why?

She is like a modern day Patricia Wentworth with a much younger sleuth. Miss Silver never had any romance herself.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Bernadette Dunne?

I intend to persue this series, and she reads several, so yes.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It is the most relaxing audiobook I've heard in a while. I go to sleep to them, and A) I went back and actually listened to all of it the next day. B). It didn't wake me up in the middle of the night with something truly disturbing going on.

So, it engaged and intrigued me, and I'm so jaded that isn't common.

In this second installment of Carola Dunn's cozy mystery series set in 1923 England, plucky Daisy Dalrymple embarks on another assignment for Town and Country magazine and discovers that daffodil bulbs aren't all that's buried in a country estate's flower bed.

What made the experience of listening to The Winter Garden Mystery the most enjoyable?

No excessive gore, no creepy thoughts from the murderer, characters aren't so multi-dimensional you feel like you're in the real world. I was in the mood for brain candy. This was it!

What did you like best about this story?

Like I said: pure escapism! Dialogue and characterization are all there. The unlikeable characters might have been a little too unlikeable, but it was perfect otherwise.

Have you listened to any of Bernadette Dunne’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No. People seem to react negatively to her on other reviews, but it wasn't distracting. I've heard worse on audible.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I relaxed!!! That was priceless. Thank you!

Available to download for the very first time, the fantastic Inspector Appleby series by celebrated crime writer Michael Innes. There are fifteen stories in this compelling collection, including: Poltergeist - when Appleby's wife tells him that her aunt is experiencing trouble with a Poltergeist, he is amused but dismissive, until he discovers that several priceless artefacts have been smashed as a result

Clarice Borio says: "A Poor Reader Can Ruin a Good Book"
"Deplorable Narration on a wonderful book!"
    Overall

Seriously! You can hear this poor soul practically choking at times, and he rereads fragments of text way too often. I really liked the short stories, but it was like having Uncle Abraham read to you without his teeth in!! They didn't even have the production integrity to re-record and edit. The book itself was good, or I would have rated it a 2.

Available to download for the very first time, the fantastic Inspector Appleby series by celebrated crime writer Michael Innes. Sir John Appleby dines one evening at Allington Park, the Georgian home of his acquaintance Owain Allington, who is new to the area. The evening comes to an end but just as Appleby is leaving, they find a dead man - electrocuted in the son et lumihre box which had been installed in the grounds.

    Kathleen says: "quiet satire"
    "Great set-up and ending!"
    Overall

I use audiobooks to lull myself to sleep, so this was great for me! That fact probably isn't a high recommendation to those who want excitement in a book, however.

After many great nights of sleep, I reached the ending and thought it was very sly. I actually listened to the beginning again, just because the murder itself was so unexpected......and slept really well again!
