At every turn you could predict how the plot would fall out - rather saccharine, but interesting world premise, unfortunately treated very lightly. Very Mills & Boon-ish
Great starting story - though a bit heavy-handed with the love interest. The narrator has a nice english accent - either by inheritance or talent but the pronuncication of far too many of the words is inauthentic enough to be thoroughly distracting. Timbre great, but it seems that no effort was put into researching place names, slang, intonation of insults of many infractions. That said, the story and otherwise pleasant voices and characterizations worked fine.
Meticulous storytelling with historical and scientific detail, plus a paranormal world - with a strong (fairly) unsappy love story too. Good stuff.
- but focussing so much on the eroticism rather than the story is a shame. If time were taken to fill out the story, maybe this would be a full length book rather than only 3hrs!
Great story, quickly came to care about the characters - just miffed this is the only one out here at the moment!!! Audible - please hurry up the folks recording the rest of this series!!
If you can deal with appalling accents - some clearly meant to be English or Scottish and missing the mark by a mile (wrong stress, poor pronunciation) - this story is as amusing as the previous two in the series.
Maybe I was fooled by the cover - expected something a bit more interesting - purely personal - but this turned out to be a suspense / romance with very little to distinguish it from any other. Found it difficult to distinguish some of the male voices at times which was distracting. OK - but borderline worth the time / credit for me.
First - the narrator's voice does not seem to do justice to the characterisations. Secondly, not sure whether it was just the youthful sound of the narrator, (along with some very awkward phrasing and mispronunciations), or the story itself - but the relationships between the characters seem very disjointed, as well as the progression along the storyline - which at first seemed promising, but fails to engage somehow...
No prude - far from it, but the jarring use of the the c-word for female genitalia is just *not* sexy according to me. So it lost out on both eroticism as well as story. Lost interest half-way through the book.
Predictable and unsatisfyingly mushy. Characters had little depth. Formulaic storyline. Seems just to be a vehicle for the 'erotic' moments.
