Yes, I definitely will listen to it again. Susan Ericksen as always is FABULOUS! I don't believe there is any other narrator who could do these charactors any better! The story line is a bit gruesome at times but nothing that we haven't encountered in other books in this series and the continuing growth of the charactors and their relationships with each other make them feel like family to me.
Gosh, so many...obviously Eve and Roarke stand out at the top of the list, but in this story bringing the charactor of Nicksy back into the mix was a wonderful choice, and of course all of Roarke's family as well. But you just can't do one of these books without Peabody, McNab, Finney, and of course Somerset and Galahad!
She is the epitome of exactitude with her performances. You know exactly who is speaking each line! She is a master of intonation, and skill in vocal performance!
I'm going to say Nicksey in this one, even though her part in the story was relatively small, she had a great emotional impact.
I read some of the other reviews before purchasing this audio book, and I really don't understand the comments in some of them. I am glad, very glad I didn't take any of the less than complimentary comments to heart and let them change my mind about purchasing the book.
Unfortunately I would not consider the audio version of the book better than the print version. The audio would have benefitted greatly from having a professional do the narration. Someone like Susan Erikson or someone of her calibre would have made this a 5 star audio book. As it is it felt like the auther, who did the narration himself, was rushing through the reading and each character (most of whom were women) all had the same vocal tone. I really liked the story and the premise of the book but I was tempted at about 1/3 of the way through to just download the book on Kindle and read it myself. I did stick with it and listen to the audio book all the way through, but the experience of the story would have been much richer with a different narrator.
I loved the idea of the story and the characters
Unfortunately I didn't appreciate his performance very much at all.
I don't think it needs a tag line. I believe that the title speaks volumes and asks a host of questions as well.
Yes, I wanted to share this book with friends, but in all fairness I cannot recommend the audio version, so I went to Amazon and ordered 4 copies of the book.
Story line was well thought out and well written. Characters were clear and well defined. Main character was complex but likable,
The best part was the voice of the narrator, clean, clear, good delineation of characters.
He is a talented, strong, very experienced actor, and brings all of that expertise to this performance. The story line captures your interest almost immediately, and holds it throughout the book. He doesn't let go of your attention.
The most compelling thing is the interplay of all the family characters you became familiar with in the 3 preceeding stories. Cam, Phillip, Ethan and Seth are interlocking pieces of a strong family puzzle. Their respective wives add color, depth and more humor and love to this fabulous family.
Seth, the way he thinks, his art work, his love and loyalty to his family!
One of my favorite scenes is his homecoming, and seeing Anna first. The warmth, joy, tenderness and depth of feeling was amazing.
When Seth dreamed about Stella, (his grandmother) a person he had never met.
James Daniels does a wonderful job with this narration, the characters voices are finely drawn and the emotional content is honest and true.
Going back and listening to this first Eve Dallas story is like revisiting history. It's all about the history of the relationships of the main characters. It flows beautifully and is so strong a foundation to build from that visiting the book again is like reminising about your own past.
I compare it to Cheasapeak Blue, which is the final book in Nora Roberts Cheasapeak Bay novels, it has all the history of each of the brothers, and the wonderful story of Seth.
Susan Ericksen's talents in the field of narrator are without equal as far as I am concerned! She manages to capture each voice in a unique and beautifully nuanced way, so that the listener is certain who is speaking, without minimizing the whole story. She is an absolute jewel in this field!
Don't miss the creation of a legend!!
I have read every book in the series so far and not been disappointed once. The characters grow with each new adventure. They are full and fleshed out and you can almost know by now what their reaction will be to any given circumstance...you know them that well!!
