I was so tired of political histories claiming to be the real story but chocked full of political spin for one side or another. This has the story behind all the political spin during the making of the constitution. It gives both sides of the story. For those who like history or want to learn about the constitution.
It is obvious that the writer has an agenda and is using data to support this agenda. At times the writter uses old studies or avoids information that could show those fallacies. However, the important lesson learned from this book is to show the reader how data can be manipulated. For example, the writer believes that members of one race will not discriminate against people of their own race for a profit or that a person would not have such strong prejudice as to refuse to do business with certain groups even though it would cause a loss of income. The lesson I learned is there are so many factors intertwined that people using data should be very wary when using studies to prove causation and correlation. Most often this simplistic view could result in poor conclusions. I would recommend this book as an aid on how information can and is manipulated. It also shows how gross statistics often creates fallacies that can cause harm.
The characters are done well and the story is is to follow. The story has a similar theme of how people survive during doomsday. If you liked hunger games you should like this. Keeps you interested and sometimes at the edge of your seat. My hubby thought they could be longer. Enjoyed the series as we drove, wonderful way to enjoy a book and see the country.
The one sided monalogue got old and the personal attacks were at times sickening. The logic the author uses is at times comical. Using one reason at one time as bad and at another time as good. Example, he states the people should not have politicians tell them what to do but he speaks over and over how direct election of senators by the people is bad. Anyone can take a person and report just negative things, that is not hard to do. Every founding father had his good and bad. To report a one sided history. not giving both sides of the circumstances and facts to let the readers decide on there own, is exactly what he critisized over and over in the book. Wait the logic got worse, the author blames every world woe on progressivism when the same issues have been happening since written history. I will have to admit even though there were political points I agreed with, the book was a total waste of time and really is a one sided political rant.
It was the second time I have read this book. The first time to listen. So as you can imagine the third time is the charm. I enjoyed it because it allows you to imagine everyday people can survive almost anything. It showed that people need not break down into murderous hoards to do so. This book is about a different place and time, written in the 1950's, when nuclear bombs and WWWIII was the biggest fear. It also showed how many things we take for granted in our every day living. It centers on one family and one small town. Like any small town there is a large diversity of people and all handle the situation just a little bit differently.
For years we wondered. This book helped us understand just a little better. There are practical tips. Most of all it was written by a person with autism. I would highly recommend this book
I think the author intended to relate how bad things happen to good people or something like that. I found it very hard to listen to, especially as it often repeated a old Dick and Jane book. It felt disjointed and I kept wondering what is the point of this book and why oh why did I order it?
I was torn between to much detail and detail so great that I could easily picture what the scenes were in vivid detail, no pictures needed. You must truely love history and want the entire picture to read this book. The books states at one point there were people of honor and there was. There were also people who took advantage of the situation to increase their bank accounts. Finally there were those who tried as best they could but lacked the resources they needed. Overall I enjoyed this read very much although, at times i felt overwhelmed with too much detail perhaps because it was such a terrible point in history.
I would recommend this book to understand what really helped and hurt the Irish people.
Not very often do I read a book twice. I fear without listening twice I might forget some valuable Information. Learned many things on not only the mind but how it Interacts with the body. Great book, learned a lot. It teaches you how to make healthy mind / body choices to make your time on earth much better. Highly recommended.
This is one of the very few books I keep on my phone to listen to when I need help relaxing. It is a very calming read. Or I would suggest to listen to while trying to fall asleep.
Why do people act they way they do? Get an idea of what motivates people or creates ambivalence. A good read for managers. Acting irrationally is more common than one thinks. It can help or hurt. Very insightful, with studies to help you understand why people act the way they do.
