In You Can Heal Your Heart, self-empowerment luminary Louise Hay and renowned grief and loss expert David Kessler have come together to start a conversation on healing after loss. Louise and David discuss the emotions and thoughts that occur when a relationship leaves you brokenhearted, a marriage ends in divorce, or a loved one dies.

What did you love best about You Can Heal Your Heart?

First, let me start my review by being clear this book is not REALLY “By Louise Hay” as they want you to think. I adore Louise Hay, I have all her books. However, Louise is not 87 years old and clearly can not or does not want to write additional books on her own. For whatever reason (to sell books and make profits, I assume) her publishing company, Hay House, has developed a new “idea”. They have another author write 99.5% of a book, they have said author narrate 99.5% of said book, they have the author lovely mention Louise having input into the text and then you will hear Louise read a few affirmations or make a VERY brief comment during the audio. They then slap her name on the cover as a co-author which I believe does her and her fans a major disservice. That is what Hay House has done here. That is what they did with “All Is Well”. I hope they stop, but I had a strong feeling when I bought his book that is what they had done so I wasn't totally shocked, just rolled my eyes.

What other book might you compare You Can Heal Your Heart to and why?

As I said "All is Well" and that is not a good thing.

Would you be willing to try another one of Louise Hay and David Kessler ’s performances?

This book is not read by Louise Hay. It is almost entirely David Kessler and a flaw of the audiobook which I have seen far too often is having the author read it. David Kessler is not a good narrator. He actually stops a few times mid-sentence as if he lost his place or was unsure where to pause (I thought it was me, I re-listened, nope.) and a couple of times uses the term “herself” when he means “himself” and “her” when he mean “him”. He does THAT several times and I have no idea if the actual book is also incorrect but you spot it each time. Why they let those error get released instead of simply re-recording that portion escapes me. However, as informative as David Kessler's information may be, his reading of his own text shouldn't have happened and it can be distracting. He is also very monotone.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

That above said, there IS VALUE to this book. The READ author David Kessler does impart important information about grief be it via a breakup, divorce or death as the book claims. I made notes of a number of things he shared and found it very helpful. So I recommend this book.

    Any additional comments?

I am a longtime user of Audible and typically review the books I have listened to to help others. I will say that the "review form" is very poor as it asks you question that may have not be what you care to discuss about the book. SO, if my responses don't quite answer the question asked, sorry. The form forces you to adapt it to your own needs.

What did you love best about There's More to Life than This?

I have watched Theresa Caputo on television and while she is an original, I do believe much of what she experiences is true. I was glad to learn more about her life and experiences in this book.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I feel terrible saying this, but Theresa did a horrible job narrating her own book! I know she had assistance writing it but she reads it as if she isn't even aware what is coming next. Her delivery is monotone, she pauses mid-sentence at times and it feels like she is reading someone else's book aloud. That was VERY distracting from the experience. If the author of a book is not good at reading it with emotion and as if they are storytelling (as Theresa should be since it's HER life story) then they should not do the audiobook.

    Any additional comments?

Great book. Theresa Caputo is not a good narrator and I am surprised they didn't spot this in production and work with her to improve her delivery of the text.

Where does Stock Investing for Dummies, 2nd Edition rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

While I consider myself intelligent I have always found the "for Dummies" series of books very easy to navigate and understand and well laid out. The same is true here. The format of these books is excellent no matter the topic.

What was most disappointing about Paul Mladjenovic’s story?

DATED! I learned a great deal in the first half, however then the text became very dated. I was stunned when the author began speaking of the house market as if we should be cautious, but the problems MAY happen. I then realized this text was two versions older than the book sold on Amazon.com. Not good in a topic like stocks where advice needs to stay current!

Would you be willing to try another one of Brett Barry’s performances?

Yes, I found his voice and reading engaging unlike some other books I have listened to where the information is valuable, but the narrator makes you go numb.

    Any additional comments?

Please search for a NEWER version of this book before purchase. This is the SECOND EDITION and the FORTH EDITION is in print on Amazon.com. This book will help you understand the terms of stock investing... but whenever it ventures onto "current events" it is a few years off the mark.

In her first book in many years, best-selling author Daphne Rose Kingma takes us on a path of emotional and spiritual healing, with particular attention to the complex and frequently overwhelming circumstances of our lives right now. The perfect combination of empathic friend, sage counselor, savvy problem solver, and even gallows humorist, Kingma looks straight into the predicaments so many of us face. She then offers 10 deceptively simple yet profoundly effective strategies for coping.

Would you listen to The Ten Things to Do When Your Life Falls Apart again? Why?

Yes, in fact I have already listened to portions twice. I found this book VERY inspiring even if you are not currently in a stressful situation and seeing guidance. I have HAD "my life fall apart" in the past and find Daphne's ideas can be applied any day.

What other book might you compare The Ten Things to Do When Your Life Falls Apart to and why?

I would compare this to books by Louise Hay "You Can Heal Your Life" and Rhonda Byrnes "The Secret" and "The Power" as she touches on similar themes.

What about Daphne Rose Kingma’s performance did you like?

I truly loved her performance! I have had bad narrators destroy good books for me to the point I just can't finish them. Daphne is very engaging, has true feeling and emotion to her voice and is a joy to listen to.

This is Jon Kabat-Zinn's most comprehensive audio program on mindfulness. It combines gentle guidance with conversational narratives weaving together science, poetry, and the art of living - all in the service of deepening your appreciation of the "workability" of the present moment, no matter how hard or challenging your circumstances. This moment, when held in awareness with gentleness and self-compassion, has the potential for catalyzing, healing, and transforming your life. Mindfulness meditation is both a discipline and an adventure.

Would you listen to Adventures in Mindfulness again? Why?

I enjoyed this book very much especially the guided meditation. It truly help me center myself.

What other book might you compare Adventures in Mindfulness to and why?

    "Stillness Speaks" by Eckert Tolle

What about Jon Kabat-Zinn’s performance did you like?

He has a very calm and relaxing tone to his voice.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

(I have to say, I have purchased dozens of books from Audible the form they use for reviews is awkward and does not allow for a full review of the book as it asks questions that may not be relevant to what you want to mention about the book.)

    Any additional comments?

As mentioned by another reviewer in 12/13, there ARE production issues with this audiobook. I thought I was crazy when I heard the author repeat himself a number of times knowing I had not rewound the audiobook. Sure enough, 2 if not 3 chapters are REPEATED. SO, the book is not as long as the file indicates, somehow they inserted a bunch of the audio twice in the file. I have reached out to Audible as I have never had this happen before I trust they will want to have this fixed. It was disappointing and confusing.

Five hundred years before the birth of Jesus, a God-realized being named Lao-tzu in ancient China dictated 81 verses, which are regarded by many as the ultimate commentary on the nature of our existence. The classic text of these 81 verses, called the Tao Te Ching or the Great Way, offers advice and guidance that is balanced, moral, spiritual, and always concerned with working for the good.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

If Wayne Dyer presented this information in a manner that was clearer. I was excited to listen to this book but found myself each time only getting bits and pieces of what he was trying to convey. He repeats "Do the Tao" over and over without quite explaining WHAT he wants the listener to do and why. I am very familiar with his and similar work and have enjoyed them very much. THIS, I was lost!

Would you ever listen to anything by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer again?

Yes, is presented in a clear and understandable way and MUCH shorter.

Have you listened to any of Dr. Wayne W. Dyer’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. I am familiar with his work in "The Secret"

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I believe the concepts Dyer TRIES to convey have great meaning. His presentation is odd and far too long winded.

At least one-third of the people we know are introverts. They are the ones who prefer listening to speaking, reading to partying; who innovate and create but dislike self-promotion; who favor working on their own over brainstorming in teams. Although they are often labeled "quiet," it is to introverts that we owe many of the great contributions to society--from van Gogh’s sunflowers to the invention of the personal computer.

Far too much "data". This book does not speak in plain English. It does on and on about studies and facts and figures that make you go numb. I have listened to several books on Introversion ("The Introvert's Way is EXCELLENT) but this one is way too long and is like a college course... you nod off fast.

What do you think your next listen will be?

A book on this topic that is much more fast paced and interesting.

Would you be willing to try another one of Kathe Mazur’s performances?

No. Kathe is very monotone and herself seems disinterested in the material.

The rules for living in the real world have changed, because the world we live in has changed. Much of the conventional wisdom the last generation has passed on just doesn't apply like it once did. If you want to win, and win big, and, more importantly, keep what you work so hard for, you need a crystal-clear view of how the real world works - not how you wish it worked, but how it actually works.

What would have made Dr. Phil McGraw: Life Code better?

While his love of himself grates on me, I saw Dr. Phil on OWN doing a Lifeclass about this book. I enjoyed the points he shared and decided to buy the book here. I may have to return this title if he doesn't stop what he starts in the first 5 minutes of listening. You get to hear how amazing HIS career has been and how terrific HIS success in life is. They you have to hear about HIS wonderful marriage and HIS two amazingly successful sons. HELLO? PAGING PHIL MCGRAW... THIS BOOK ISN'T ABOUT HOW WONDERFUL YOU THINK YOU ARE.

If you’ve listened to books by Phil McGraw before, how does this one compare?

I have not because of this very fear, that McGraw would make the entire book like his television appearances, about himself and his love for himself.

What didn’t you like about Phil McGraw’s performance?

Self-Centered and annoying. He actually works for Oprah Winfrey still and she has a hand in pretty much any "product" with his name. While she can have flashes of self importance it is amazing to me she hasn't sat him down and told him to take the spotlight off himself and shine it on HIS AUDIENCE.

What character would you cut from Dr. Phil McGraw: Life Code?

    Dr. Phil McGraw.

    Any additional comments?

I feel this book HAS good information in it but so far it buried so far under McGraw's self congratulatory tone it is grating.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I would have rated this much higher if it MADE SENSE. I have listened to many books on affirmations and positive thinking, many by the same publishers. I LOVE Louise Hay! I found this book confusing, scattered, the reading poor and the idea of the female writer channeling someone named Abraham just was too much.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Something on the same topic not so far fetched on the same topic.

What didn’t you like about Jerry Hicks’s performance?

He sounded monotone and as if he was reading.

What character would you cut from The Vortex?

I would have the couple bring their message down to basic common priciples and relay them in similar question and answer format, but not as if Jerry Hick's was interviewing some spirit coming through Esther. She also spoke in such a long winded way by the time she got to something usefull I was numb.

If you could sum up Seriously...I'm Kidding in three words, what would they be?

    Funny. Lighthearted. Unusual.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I did find the sometimes very short chapters a bit jarring and much more enjoyed when Ellen relayed a full story then just a short random thought that somewhat broke up the enjoyment of the book. Tell stories from your life and funny observations OR just have one page random thoughts and lists, mixing the two was odd.

    Which scene was your favorite?

Any time Ellen told a story about her family, her show, etc. was very enjoyable.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I can't imagine sitting and reading this book in print. Like Kathy Griffin's book, it gains SO MUCH by hearing the author read it with their own inflections, etc. This works especially well in comedy and you don't have to imagine how Ellen would have delivered a line.

    Any additional comments?

I highly recommend this book in audio format. I saw the print version in a store and am glad I skipped it for this one. I would prefer she had not thrown in one page "chapters" that she seems to start and finish in less than a minute, but 75% of the text was very enjoyable.
