Jim Gaffigan can do no wrong. He is one of my favourite Comedians. I don't have children and this book is mostly about that... and I still love it.
This slowly became one of the most disturbing books I have ever listened to. I'm still reeling a bit from it. I picked it as a bit of a lark, thinking it was meant for the youth crowd. It is...and it isn't. I will be picking up the next in the series but I have a hard time believing this one can be topped. It is now one of my favourites. On par with Lord of the Flies.
If you like this series you will like this book. Just good characters developing as characters do with a familiar plot. Sometimes familiarity is just what you are looking for...in that mood this is the book for you.
I LOVED The Secret History so I bought this book on pre-order. It didn't disappoint...mostly. I don't say this lightly, because I check how long a book is before I buy it; I love long books BUT this one could have lost a few chapters near the end.
I think these books are meant for youth... sometimes that is OK.. I enjoyed Harry Potter and the Hunger Games but this one didn't have the bones to keep my attention at all.
Fun and engaging this book was worth the investment. It is one of the first books that I picked based on other reader's reviews and it was such a success now I do it all the time.
This book was wonderful. Exciting, funny, interesting. Kind of a slant on apocalypse fiction, which I love. Basically, a person in a situation where they must rely on themselves and build a new reality based on a completely foreign situation. Really surprisingly enthralling. I will listen to it again.
I really enjoy this author. His character development is satisfying and deep without being overdone. I am constantly amazed by his books because though I don't identify with his characters and the story lines are fantastic enough that you can't identify with them either somehow I still can't put them down. They are romantic without sentiment and have an unflinching, direct tone that I find both disturbing and engrossing. A rare find that hits all the right notes. On par with the others I have read of his: The wind up bird Chronicle and IQ84.
This is a really fun read. I loved Harkaway's Gone Away World which is why I picked this one up, and it did not disappoint. He is the kind of author that provides just the right amount of imagination and oddity that the world seems believable - not fantasy - yet has that adventurous quality I long for in a novel. It is the kind of book that sends me back to audible right away in hopes of finding another great journey.
slightly above the middle of the pack
No, but I was curious and finished the book in two days. I enjoyed it.
