This is an awesome audio book. The novel is excellent but the narration is superb --- the best I have listened to so far. The narrator is a brilliant artist. The novel is complex and serious work of art. It is for adults--- not for children. It is poetic, profound, and dazzling.
If it had been written and narrated better I would rate it higher. Ultimately, Chris came across as insincere, immature, bigoted, and someone who has no respect for human life.
Narrator read in a flippant childish tone. He read Chris's wife parts as if she was male speaking faster.
The bigotry, dehumanization of the enemy and insensitivity to loss of life was sickening.
I wanted to like this but Chris came across as an uneducated violent thrill seeker not a patriot.
I would recommend this audiobook. The writing is fresh and the narration is practically perfect. This is one of my favorite books.
The odd but wonderfully sensitive and amusing perspective of the story.
He brings the main character to life.
This ranks number one among the nonfiction audiobooks I have listened to so far. Although the audiobook is very long it’s journalistic style is compelling and the overall impact on my view of world history was profound.
The events are told in a frank and even couragous manner.
Psychologically darkly funny
The character study of Tom and his world view was fascinating and amusing.
This audiobook is actually wonderful...even for adult listeners. Moreover, the novel is well written and the narration was perfect.
The novel was excellent; however, the reader was not very good. The story has a first person narration. The central character is an adolescent boy. However, the narrator doesn't sound like a teenage boy but rather like an adult reading to a child. This detracted from the listen.
