Darrow is a Red, a member of the lowest caste in the color-coded society of the future. Like his fellow Reds, he works all day, believing that he and his people are making the surface of Mars livable for future generations. Yet he spends his life willingly, knowing that his blood and sweat will one day result in a better world for his children. But Darrow and his kind have been betrayed. Soon he discovers that humanity reached the surface generations ago. Vast cities and sprawling parks spread across the planet.

Like most books that are going to be in a series, this first book is full of character development and world building...ummm, I mean Mars building. There isn't a lot of action in the first half of the book, but it is setting the stage for the later half of the novel that is full of action. It is slightly annoying that it is so obvious the main character is going to win 'the game, ' but if you can overlook this, I recommend this novel and will definitely buy the sequel, which is set up to be an ever better book than Red Rising.

Tony Webster and his clique first met Adrian Finn at school. Sex-hungry and book-hungry, they would navigate the girl-less sixth form together, trading in affectations, in-jokes, rumor, and wit. Maybe Adrian was a little more serious than the others, certainly more intelligent, but they all swore to stay friends for life. Now Tony is retired. He’s had a career and a single marriage, a calm divorce. He’s certainly never tried to hurt anybody. Memory, though, is imperfect. It can always throw up surprises, as a lawyer’s letter is about to prove.

This book was horrible! The plot wasn't interesting, the characters were as limp as a dish towel, and even the setting of London was reduced to a boring and mindless place! I really don't understand how listeners could give this an overall rating of 3 1/2 stars and have 710 reviews.

Meg Murray, her little brother Charles Wallace, and their mother are having a midnight snack on a dark and stormy night when an unearthly stranger appears at their door. He claims to have been blown off course, and goes on to tell them that there is such a thing as a "tesseract," which, if you didn't know, is a wrinkle in time. Meg's father had been experimenting with time-travel when he suddenly disappeared. Will Meg, Charles Wallace, and their friend Calvin outwit the forces of evil as they search through space for their father?

This book never gets old even though it was written in the 1960's. For over 10 years I have read this book (or let them listen to this book) to my 4th graders and they love it!

Hidden deep beneath Manhattan lies a warren of tunnels, sewers, and galleries, mostly forgotten by those who walk the streets above. There lies the ultimate secret of the Museum Beast. When two grotesquely deformed skeletons are found deep in the mud off the Manhattan shoreline, museum curator Margo Green is called in to aid the investigation.

This was a good sequel but I thought the original book had more intensity to it. This story picks up 18 months after the museum beast is killed and adds to the plot bunny that was created in the epilogue of Relic. There are more mysterious killings, more bumbling cops and political characters, and of course the dry humor of Pendergast, the surprising intellect of D'Agosta, and the reluctant hero of Margo Green.
What stopped me from giving this book 5 stars across the board was the revealing of the evil overlord. Who it turned out to be was not believable and there was no build up before the 'big reveal' to prepare the reader for the disappointing revelation. Maybe if this part had been written better, I would have liked this book as well as the first one.

For a 2,000-year-old Druid, Atticus O’Sullivan is a pretty fast runner. Good thing, because he’s being chased by not one but two goddesses of the hunt - Artemis and Diana - for messing with one of their own. Dodging their slings and arrows, Atticus, Granuaile, and his wolfhound Oberon are making a mad dash across modern-day Europe to seek help from a friend of the Tuatha Dé Danann. His usual magical option of shifting planes is blocked, so instead of playing hide-and-seek, the game plan is...run like hell.

I love this series and even have bought the books for my husband to read (for some reason he doesn't want to listen to a book). This series gets more complicated and adds new characters with every new book that is produces. It also seem that the danger level is going up as Atticus approached Ragnarork, which makes sense, right!?
For a tiny second I actually thought Atticus may have really bit the dust in this book, but then common sense came into focus. You can't have the main character die, right?? You better listen, Kevin. You better not kill off Atticus, or more importantly Oberon! I was concerned that Oberon wouldn't recover from going mad and have to be killed and was actually distraught at the thought!

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

I really enjoyed listening to this book. It was unique, creative. and entertaining..all things a sci-fi book should be! The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars across the board is that too many questions lingered in my mind after this book wrapped up. Most of the questions were sub plots and it bothered me that they were never explained. For example, it was never explained why people in some apartments slept well and others left after 6 months due to not sleeping or having nightmares. Why even add this info if the author never explains why this occurs!? !It seemed that the book ended abruptly and was a little rushed.

An angel with immense power and insatiable desire, Adrian Mitchell leads an elite Special Ops unit of the seraphim. His task is to punish the Fallen - angels who have become vampires - and command a restless pack of indentured lycans. But Adrian has suffered his own punishment for becoming involved with mortals - losing the woman he loves again and again. Now, after nearly 200 years, he has found her: Shadoe, her soul once more inhabiting a new body that doesn’t remember him. This time he won’t let her go.

This book is about a girl who doesn't know why she is faster than normal and can pick out 'evil' people, but she eventually finds out all about angels, demons, vampires, and lycans. You see, she shares a soul with Shadoe, who brought down the angel Adrian through love and seduction and comes back to him time after time. The way this book ends makes me think the sequel is going to be better than the first book.

In this book, we continue the monster killing from the first book, but find more about why Z is the chosen one. It includes more interaction with his parents, brother, and future in-laws as well. We also find out more about Special Agent Franks in this sequel and of course the Dread Overlord makes an appearance as well.

If you want a book with lots of monster killings and imaginative plots to go along with all the gore, this is the series for you. It is fast paced, and even has a love story that parallels the monster hunting!
Since I am from Alabama, I find it humorous that the monster base for this story is set in LA (Lower Alabama). The monster hunters go all over the place, but they always end up in Sweet Home Alabama (sorry, I couldn't resist!).

I enjoyed this book. it was set in New Orleans, which was an automatic plus for me. Jane is a tough as nails...so so human. Jane is a skin walker. She shares her soul with a panther/large cat figure and has been around for centuries, but she doesn't remember much of this time. A good portion of the book is from the POV of Beast the cat and delves into her long past. There is also some Cherokee lore brought into this book as Jane is part Cherokee and gets help from a Cherokee shaman.

She has been hired by vampires to kill a rogue vampire who is giving all the 'well mannered' vampires of NO a bad reputation. She lives at/near a whore house which is run by one of the vamps she is hired by. In the end she gets the rogue, but it brings about more trouble for Jane and is the material for the sequel.
