Ann Silver is a cop’s cop. As the Midwest Homicide Investigator, she is called in to help local law enforcement on the worst of cases, looking for answers to murder. Hers is one of the region’s most trusted investigative positions. Paul Falcon is the FBI’s top murder cop in the Midwest. If the victim carried a federal badge or had a security clearance, odds are good Paul and his team see the case file or work the murder. Their lives intersect when Ann arrives to pass a case off her desk and onto his.

Although I understood this was a Christian writer, I have read such books, like the Walt Longmire stories, that weren't so religious. In this book, there is no cursing, drinking, smoking, or sex, but it is about people who spend a lot of time reading the bible. That is, it is not real life. Really, the star of the story is a forty year old vergin? The plot is boring, boring, boring. They are after murder for hire killers. I would not recommend anyone buying this book. I am glad I only paid a low sale price, but feel I wasted my money even then.

Sorry. The single word is written on a mirror. In front of it hangs a Minneapolis Internal Affairs cop. Was it suicide? Or a kinky act turned tragic? Either way, it wasn't murder. At least not according to the powers that be. But veteran homicide detective Sam Kovac and his wisecracking, ambitious partner, Nikki Liska, think differently. Together they begin to dig at the too-neat edges of the young cop's death, uncovering one motive - and one suspect - after another.

It took me until the book was half over with until I caught on to the plot. The book did not hold my interest, but I did like the ending.

A long-buried family secret resurfaces when one of Aloysius Pendergast's most implacable enemies shows up on his doorstep as a murdered corpse. The mystery has all the hallmarks of the perfect murder, save for an enigmatic clue: a piece of turquoise lodged in the stomach of the deceased. The gem leads Pendergast to an abandoned mine on the shore of California's desolate Salton Sea, which in turn propels him on a journey of discovery deep into his family's sinister past.

I found this book amazing. The action was so unusual that it was riveting. This is the last of the Pendergast series, and I am so sad. I enjoyed each one. Bravo to the authors and the narrator. Good job!

Hidden deep beneath Manhattan lies a warren of tunnels, sewers, and galleries, mostly forgotten by those who walk the streets above. There lies the ultimate secret of the Museum Beast. When two grotesquely deformed skeletons are found deep in the mud off the Manhattan shoreline, museum curator Margo Green is called in to aid the investigation.

This is the second book in the series. Pendergast's character is not well defined, and certainly not the main character of the story. The narrator is terrible and not like Dick Hill I would not buy this one again.

Unlike the first novel of the series, this one took place entirely in the Middle East. There is more action in the story with secondary characters than with the Gray Man. I guess I am not into this kind of book, but I did listen to the whole thing, and then bought the third novel in the series.

Court Gentry is known as The Gray Man - a legend in the covert realm, moving silently from job to job, accomplishing the impossible, and then fading away. And he always hits his target. But there are forces more lethal than Gentry in the world. And in their eyes, Gentry has just outlived his usefulness. Now, he is going to prove that for him, there's no gray area between killing for a living-and killing to stay alive.

I don't normally like spy novels preferring mysteries and police detective ones instead. This one started out with a Middle East scene, and I thought, oh no, not one of these novels. It quickly moved on and I was hooked. It seems impossible that the star could survive the things he did, but that was what made it interesting. I'll be listening to more books in this series.

Andy Carpenter isn't sure what to think when he gets a mysterious phone call from a good friend, policeman Pete Stanton, asking him to drop everything, drive to an unfamiliar address, and bring his girlfriend, Laurie Collins. He certainly isn't expecting to show up at a crime scene. But that's exactly where he arrives - at the house where Pete has just discovered the body of ex-convict Danny Balfour. Upstairs are Danny's now orphaned four-year-old son and basset hound. And that, Andy discovers, is why he and Laurie were called to the scene - Pete wants them to take care of the boy and the dog so they won't get thrown into the "system". This is already asking a lot, but soon Pete needs another big favor from Andy. Pete himself has come under suspicion for Danny's murder, and he needs defense attorney Andy to represent him - and to find out what really happened in Danny's house that day!

Virgil's always been known for having a somewhat active, er, social life, but he's probably not going to be getting too many opportunities for that during his new case. While competing in a fishing tournament in a remote area of northern Minnesota, he gets a call from Lucas Davenport to investigate a murder at a nearby resort.

It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?

This is one strange book. A woman plans her disappearance so that it appears her husband has murdered her. It is amazing how she plans it, and it seems so hopeless that her husband would be charged with her murder. Julia Whelan just cannot do a male voice. Her male voices are very feminine.
