I would definitely listen to this story again. It was a poignant and honest tale of how our jealousies and fears cause us to do things we are ashamed of but that we sometimes get the chance for redemption. I loved the book and highly recommend it and A Thousand Splendid Suns.
I loved all of the Philippa Gregory books and this is no exception. She has a wonderful way of teaching history through her fiction and I was sorry to get back to where I began in the series. Although I started later and went back to the books that came before I loved everyone. Highly recommend this series to lovers of historical fiction and strong women!
The narrator is perfect and her ability to change voices for each character is not a distraction like in some books. Additionally, the story line is unique but gives me the historical storylines I love. The characters are well rounded and the pace is just right. After completing all the Phillipa Gregory books I was looking for something as good and I think I found it. Different, of course, but it kept my interest (considering I listen 2 or more hours a day during my commute) and I am on book 2 now.
Claire is my favorite character. She is a strong, caring woman dealing with the cards she has been dealt with grace and wit.
Wow! What a wonderful way to walk in the shoes of Afghan women during one of the countrys most tumultuous times. I learned so much from these AMAZING and strong women. Highly recommend.
This was my first Phillipa Gregory novel and I am hooked! This book is exceptional in every way...story, characters, descriptions, pacing and narration. What a beautiful way to learn history!
