What secrets can be found by the light of the Cajun moon? New Orleans may be the "Big Easy", but nothing about it was ever easy for international business etiquette expert Chloe Ledet. She moved away years ago, leaving her parents and their famous French Quarter restaurant behind. But when she hears that her father has been shot, she races home to be by his side and to handle his affairs, only to learn a longhidden secret that changes everything she knew to be true about herself and her family.

    Deborah says: "Good clean mystery"
    "annoying heroine, overt religious agenda"
    Overall

Nowhere in the reviews that I read was it mentioned that this is a Christian novel. I don't mind having some religion in a book, but I really don't like being preached at. The heroine was silly and credulous, the hero over the top, and I'm regretting the money I spent on this one.

Best-selling novelist Kate Drake is one of seven sisters gifted with amazing powers of witchcraft. Returning home in time for her northern California town's annual Christmas pageant, Kate catches the spirit of the season and decides to open a bookstore in a charming but run-down historic mill. Decorated former U.S. Army Ranger Matt Granite, now a local contractor, doesn't mind working in the undeniably eerie house -- not if it means getting closer to Kate. There's something about the quiet, sensual woman that powerfully attracts him.

Would you try another book from Christine Feehan and/or Teri Clark Linden?

I'm glad I bought this book on sale, since I only wasted a few dollars on it. Both the writing and narration were awful! Teri Clark Linden reminded me of a grade school teacher reading a book she didn't care for to a class. But, I guess the book merited the boring and bored reading, since the characters were so poorly drawn and the plot so plodding. I didn't bother to finish it, since I have better things to do. Bleah. Save your money, credits, and time!

  • Emperor Mollusk Versus the Sinister Brain

Emperor Mollusk. Intergalactic Menace. Destroyer of Worlds. Conqueror of Other Worlds. Mad Genius. Ex-Warlord of Earth. Not bad for a guy without a spine. But what's a villain to do after he's done... everything. With no new ambitions, he's happy to pitch in and solve the energy crisis or repel aliens invaders should the need arise, but if he had his way, he'd prefer to be left alone to explore the boundaries of dangerous science. Just as a hobby, of course. Retirement isn't easy though.

    Kat Hooper says: "Hilariously wacky!"

Would you consider the audio edition of Emperor Mollusk Versus the Sinister Brain to be better than the print version?

The audio version of this book is a delight.

What about Scott Aiello’s performance did you like?

The narrator was spot-on in his delivery, both of voices and timing. I'll be looking for books he's narrated again, based on this book.

    Any additional comments?

It made for a delightful romp, plowing through every B-movie and pulp sci-fi cliche with verve. Long reign to the Emperor!

In the humorous, heartfelt new novel by the author of The Next Thing on My List, a personal organizer must somehow convince a reclusive artist to give up her hoarding ways and let go of the stuff she’s hung onto for decades.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I'm not sure I'd recommend this book. As the mom of a drug addict, I found it difficult to listen to the lengths to which the main character went for her ungrateful, unwilling to own his behavior son. Perhaps other parents do such things, but I knew from the start that she was doing the child no favors, and it was just plain annoying that she danced to his tune and allowed that to control her life completely. I thought the artist character was far more interesting, and frankly she was the reason I finished the book.

  • The Spellmans Strike Again: A Novel

At the ripe old age of 32, former wild child Isabel "Izzy" Spellman has finally agreed to take over the family business. And the transition won't be a smooth one....The uproarious fourth and final installment in this New York Times best-selling, Edgar- and Macavity-nominated series about a kooky detective family.

    JNB says: "Bad Narration"
"Why mess with a good thing??"
    Overall

I have to agree with the other reviewers. Why oh why did they change narrators?? The series is such fun, and the edge of the narrator's voice was grating to say the least... wish I'd just bought the book! Next thing you know someone other than Dick Hill will be narrating the Jack Reacher stories!

  • Laughing Without an Accent: Adventures of an Iranian American, at Home and Abroad

In the best-selling memoir Funny in Farsi, Firoozeh Dumas recounted her adventures growing up Iranian American in Southern California. Now she again mines her rich Persian heritage in Laughing Without an Accent, sharing stories both tender and humorous on being a citizen of the world, on her well-meaning family, and on amusing cultural conundrums, all told with insights into the universality of the human condition. (Hint: It may have to do with brushing and flossing daily.)

    Sara says: "Sigh"
"would have been higher if not for the narration"
    Overall

The story is charming and an easy listen, but the book would have been better served if the audio book producers had found someone other than the author to read the book. Her inflection and cadences were tedious... I can't imagine that she actually talks like that, but she falls, as do so many, into an artificial way of speaking when she reads aloud. What a shame; the book is, as I said, charming.

    Overall

Wow.. a quadruple threat! Poor flat non-inflective reader, really awful characters and character development, unbelievable setup, and, to top it all off, glorified rape fantasies! Thank goodness I got this one on sale so I only wasted a few dollars on it! Take my advice and don't waste your dollars.

Sophie Katz's relationship with the irresistible and occasionally insufferable P.I. Anatoly Darinsky is on the fritz when a friend recruits Sophie's investigation skills to decode her possibly two-timing husband's strange behavior. When Sophie shows up in a short, red cocktail dress and her friend's hubby winds up dead, the loveable would-be sleuth can't help but take on the job.

TRACY says: "Not as engaging as previous books"
    "why bother?"
    Overall

For someone who is supposedly smart and sassy, the lead character just comes across as monumentally stupid and arrogant. I managed to listen for 2 hours and gave it up in disgust! Thank goodness I bought this book on sale! With so many great heroines out there, why waste your time and money on someone like Sophie?!

Jommy Cross is a slan, a genetically bred superhuman whose race was created to aid humanity but is now despised by normal humans. Slans are usually shot on sight, but that doesn't stop Jommy's mother from bringing him to see the world capital of Centropolis, the seat of power for Earth's dictator, Kier Gray. But on their latest trip to Centropolis, the two slans are discovered, and Jommy's mother is killed.

    Jon says: "An Old Friend"
    "maybe for its era...."
    Overall

This may be a fine book if you consider when it was written, but overall it was a very disappointing book, and the narration was flat and boring.
