It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?

Would you listen to Gone Girl again? Why?

YES! This is now in my "BOOKS TO LISTEN TO AGAIN" folder. So complex and constantly entertaining that I look forward to listening again down the road (of time)

This book has more twists and turns than any I have heard in a very long time. It's exciting, interesting and entertaining all the way through. The only disappointment was the end ... BECAUSE it ended!

I'm now going to go check out the authors other books. I can only hope that her earlier work is close to this one. If so, I will be very pleased indeed! GREAT JOB AUTHOR! GREAT JOB NARRATOR!

    Any additional comments?

This book is SO good it reminds me of how crappy most of the other books I listen to really are. I listen to many audiobooks. I have 4 active audible accounts. Most of the books I listen to are, at best, casual entertainment while I work. They are not great. This book IS GREAT. It is a treasure! It makes me sad because I know that soon this book will come to an end, and when it ends, I will be back searching through all the mediocre books again. Always searching, always hoping that I will find a book like this one. Books like this are as rare as can be. If ONLY there were more like this …

Libby Day was seven when her mother and two sisters were murdered in "The Satan Sacrifice of Kinnakee, Kansas". As her family lay dying, little Libby fled their tiny farmhouse into the freezing January snow. She lost some fingers and toes, but she survived, and famously testified that her 15-year-old brother, Ben, was the killer. Twenty-five years later, Ben sits in prison, and troubled Libby lives off the dregs of a trust created by well-wishers who've long forgotten her.

What did you love best about Dark Places?

Perhaps not "quite" as good as "GONE GIRL" ... But the same "flavor" and damn good. This author has some darkness in her. Glad she can channel it into entertaining stories. If "GONE GIRL" is a 10, this one is a 9 ... Maybe a 9.5. Worth your credit.

    "A GOOD spy thriller!"
    Overall

I enjoyed this book very much. It's exactly what I was looking for, a good spy thriller with lot's of action ... Something to take my mind off reality. Like watching "24" ... Not "HIGH ART", but fun and bloody spy action! If an escape is what you're after, look no further! I'm anxious to see how his others are.

Patty and Walter Berglund were the new pioneers of old St. Paul - the gentrifiers, the hands-on parents, the Whole Foods generation. Patty was the ideal sort of neighbor, who could tell you where to recycle your batteries and how to get the local cops to do their job. She was an enviably perfect mother and the wife of Walter's dreams. Together with Walter - environmental lawyer, commuter cyclist, total family man - she was doing her small part to build a better world.

    Lawrence says: "Believe the Hype"
    "A complexly written modern masterpiece."
    Overall

I laughed, I cried ... And just about everything else, but I was never bored.

The book examines the life of a group of people who personify modern American Homo sapiens.

The story vomits up the underlying restrained desperation of a lost generation in the last century of a dieing Empire.

5 STARS +, One of the best books Audible has to offer in my opinion.

    Overall

Don't let the nay-sayers turn you away from this book! It's marvelous! Probably my favorite of all McEwan's books. (I do have them all)

I was not bored for one moment. This is a 'laugh out loud' hilarious, wonderfully witty book! It's full of surprise twists and turns that will keep you wondering what could possibly happen next to this character.

The only thing wrong with the book is that it has to end.

Nick, once the most admired man in Fenwick, Michigan, is now, having presided over massive layoffs, the most despised. A single parent since the recent death of his wife, he's struggling to insulate his 10-year-old daughter and angry 16-year-old son from the town's hostility.

    James says: "Nail-biting suspense"
    "ANOTHER GOOD ONE"
    Overall

A very good, entertaining read/listen... I enjoyed it very much, but the ending was a bit pradictable. I like all this writers book, and especially I enjoy his narrator, Scott Brick. This one I found to be not quite as good as "KILLER INSTINCT", which I enjoyed ALL the way till the end and wanted more ...

    Absolutely worth it!
