An airliner’s controls abruptly fail mid-flight over the Atlantic. An oil tanker runs aground in Japan when its navigational system suddenly stops dead. Hospitals everywhere have to abandon their computer databases when patients die after being administered incorrect dosages of their medicine. In the Midwest, a nuclear power plant nearly becomes the next Chernobyl when its cooling systems malfunction. At first, these random computer failures seem like unrelated events.

If you could sum up Zero Day in three words, what would they be?

    Dangerous technology

What other book might you compare Zero Day to and why?

Daemon by Daniel Suarez both are eye opening books that show what could happen with the technology we already have.

What does Johnny Heller bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

A wonderful narrator who keeps you in the story and doesn't let you escape.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

A real eye opener for how an attack really happens and how even doing everything right doesn't provide sufficient protection when you are targeted for attack.

    Any additional comments?

A great book for those of us who know and love technology. An even better book for those who do not understand what is possible with today's technology and how open to attack we really are.

  • Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West

    • UNABRIDGED (19 hrs and 41 mins)

    Story
    (2038)

Heralded as an instant classic of fantasy literature, Maguire has written a wonderfully imaginative retelling of The Wizard of Oz told from the Wicked Witch's point of view. More than just a fairy tale for adults, Wicked is a meditation on the nature of good and evil.

    "Not the Broadway show"
    Overall

I picked this up because I enjoyed the Broadway show. The characters are the same, the story is different. Things that I enjoyed about the Broadway show are not at all in the book, no good dead goes unpunished. However, the story stands fine on its own once you get past any preconceived notions.

When the man Niobe loves is shot, she wants revenge. Her only chance is to accept a challenge to solve a maze of riddles devised by Satan himself. But Niobe's strength is her beauty, not her intelligence, and the fate of the human race hangs in the balance. Can she outwit Satan at his own game, or has her failure already been woven into the very Tapestry of Fate?

"Good book, audio quality is lacking."
    Overall

I'm listening to all of the Piers Anthony books that I read decades ago. Since I'm doing them back to back the audio quality on this book really struck me as soon as it started. The audio is clear, but doesn't have the range of the other books I've listened to in the series so far. The narrator does a great job and the material is good, but I have been distracted by the audio quality.
