Did Wall Street cause the mess we are in? Should Washington place stronger regulations on the financial industry? Can we lower unemployment rates by controlling the free market? Answer: no. Not only is free-market capitalism good for the economy, it is our only hope for recovery. As the nation’s longest-serving CEO of one of the top 25 financial institutions, John Allison has had a unique inside view of the events leading up to the financial crisis.

What did you love best about The Financial Crisis and the Free Market Cure?

The insight and analysis of the author. Also his deep understanding of economics and free market dynamics.

Who was your favorite character and why?

    N/A

What does Alan Sklar bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

    Superb intonation and measured narration.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I bought 16 copies to send to friends and associates!

    Any additional comments?

An incredibly good analysis of why free markets are the solution to economic stagnation and abuse. Our government has become so corrupted by special interests, on both sides of the aisle, that the true value of capitalism is being suffocated. The ignorance of basic economics by the masses adds to the problem.

Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don't live to see the morning? In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by 12 outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

There were so many that stood out I can't identify just one. Lots of them were very good.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I was totally engrossed the whole way. This was my first audiobook and it mesmerized me.

From 1999 to 2009, U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle recorded the most career sniper kills in United States military history. The Pentagon has officially confirmed more than 150 of Kyles kills (the previous American record was 109), but it has declined to verify the astonishing total number for this book. Iraqi insurgents feared Kyle so much they named him al-Shaitan ("the devil") and placed a bounty on his head.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No. Not relevant for many readers.

Did John Pruden do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

The southern drawl didn't go over well with me

Was American Sniper worth the listening time?

No. Too much repetitive material. Characters were shallow. No depth.

    Any additional comments?

I was intrigued by the notion of a sniper and the killing of over 150 people. However, I didn't ever connect with the author or his comrades.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared.....

Would you consider the audio edition of Unbroken to be better than the print version?

Don't know. Didn't read the print version

What did you like best about this story?

The amazing will to live and not give up under conditions of extreme duress

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. Too long to do that.

    Any additional comments?

This one had me coming back every day for another sequence. Very satisfying and engaging story. Extreme drama.

Why we think it’s a great listen: A performance so poignant, we gave Bronson Pinchot (yes, Balki from Perfect Strangers) our inaugural Narrator of the Year award.... In the monsoon season of 1968-69 at a fire support base called Matterhorn, located in the remote mountains of Vietnam, a young and ambitious Marine lieutenant wants to command a company to further his civilian political ambitions. But two people stand in his way.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. An unvarnished and authentic view of combat in Vietnam

Who was your favorite character and why?

    Lt. Meliss

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes. I was amazed at the emotional pull. It made me cry in anguish for what these men went through.

    Any additional comments?

I'm ashamed of my fellow countrymen for the treatment Vietnam veterans received when returning home. I am disgusted by Jane Fonda and those that defended the North Vietnamese.
