For Australians, Kokoda is the iconic battle of World War II, yet few people know just what happened and just what our troops achieved. Now, best-selling author Peter FitzSimons tells the Kokoda story in a gripping, moving story for all Australians.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

yes. It goes into the story behind the war in a part of the world not often talked about...Australia.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Kokoda?

The incredible down to earth courage of the Australian citizen soldier in the face incompetent leaders and geographical nightmares. It was disheartening to see such incredible efforts ignored by political and military leaders

    Any additional comments?

This is just another work bringing to light the farce that Douglas McArthur was. I grew up thinking he was a war hero...well, time will eventually bring out the truth and it has

What did you love best about Night Watch?

    more of Terry's brilliant satire

What did you like best about this story?

Deeper insight into what makes Vimes tick

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Stephen Briggs?

Nigel Planner is whom we have grown to expect. The problem with Briggs is the constant pauses and breath catching that detracts from the story. His accents and voices are not good but do improve as the book moves along

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

no....this is a book you listen to small batches so you don't miss the insights and jokes

There was one factor that the terrorists didn’t take into account when they struck the Capitana oil platform off the coast of Colombia - slaughtering much of the crew and blowing up the platform - and that was the Capitana crew chief, Dewey Andreas. Dewey, former Army Ranger and Delta, survives the attack, rescuing as many of his men as possible. But the battle has just begun....

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No. The first half of the book is a serious downer. Standard formula involving the bad guys consistently out foxing everyone causing catastrophic harm to the western world. The hero is so one dimensional and uninteresting that the listener cannot take him seriously

Could you see Power Down being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

    hardly

    Any additional comments?

This one of a series revolving around this hero character. I would avoid the series based on this book

The Posleen are coming and the models all say the same thing: Without the Panama Canal, the US is doomed to starvation and defeat. Despite being overstretched preparing to defend the US, the military sends everything it has left: A handful of advanced Armored Combat Suits, rejuvenated veterans from the many decades that Panama was a virtual colony and three antiquated warships. Other than that, the Panamanians are on their own.

What made the experience of listening to Yellow Eyes the most enjoyable?

narrator made maximum use of multiple accents to enhance the multiple aspects of this complex story line

What did you like best about this story?

Much more insight into the origins and motives of the alien invaders that is not found in most of the other books

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The enormity of the slaughter on both sides is hard to absrob

    Any additional comments?

The author, by his own admission, has extremely conservative political opinions which he discusses at the end of the book....giving fair warning to all to turn it off if they are liberals. Unfortunately, these view are infused into the story line so that all organized government and politicians are characterized as amoral, cowards, and traitors. There is always a little truth in such allegations but it is really irritating to have it beat into you through out an otherwise great story....oh yes, will we ever learn who the Alendata are and what they have in mind?

    no

What other book might you compare The Atlantis Gene to and why?

    cliver custler novels

How did the narrator detract from the book?

boyish, childlike story telling which makes the characters 1 dimensional. No sense of drama

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

story line had promise but idea that the good and evil organizations could really exist in our time is just silly and detracts from what could have been a good yarn.

Another good Gab story. A lot more dry humor then in the other books. New character introduced that should prove interesting. Story is not as cutting edge as the other books and seems a little lighter. Still worth getting

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

    not really

What about George Guidall’s performance did you like?

character voices are really very good and support the image in your minds eye

  • Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal

Verily, the story Biff has to tell is a miraculous one, filled with remarkable journeys, magic, healings, kung fu, corpse reanimations, demons, and hot babes. Even the considerable wiles and devotion of the Savior's pal may not be enough to divert Joshua from his tragic destiny. But there's no one who loves Josh more (except maybe "Maggie," Mary of Magdalan) and Biff isn't about to let his extraordinary pal suffer and ascend without a fight.

    Dogma
    any book by Christopher Moore

Which character – as performed by Fisher Stevens – was your favorite?

    Biff

If you could take any character from Lamb out to dinner, who would it be and why?

    Jesus, Biff and Mary M.

    Any additional comments?

This book asks and answers in a very funny but insightful manner all those questions about the young Jesus that may have occurred to you (or not). One could ignore this work as a piece of blasphemy but, while outrageous, it is insightful and surperbly funny. It takes a lot of unknown aspects of Jesus' boyhood and pushes them to wild possible story lines. Basically, this a non religious story of the coming of age of a teenage boy, who just happens to be the Son of God but isn't quite sure yet what that is all about as told through the eyes of his fictional best friend

Captain John "Black Jack" Geary's legendary exploits are known to every schoolchild. Revered for his heroic "last stand" in the early days of the war, he was presumed dead. But a century later, Geary miraculously returns from survival hibernation and reluctantly takes command of the Alliance fleet as it faces annihilation by the Syndics.

Appalled by the hero-worship around him, Geary is nevertheless a man who will do his duty. And he knows that bringing the stolen Syndic hypernet key safely home is the Alliance's one chance to win the war. But to do that, Geary will have to live up to the impossibly heroic "Black Jack" legend.

    Story
What disappointed you about The Lost Fleet: Dauntless?

This story could be told in one or two books. the story development is repetative with the same phrases and concepts repeated over and over in each book. Plot development is at a snails pace and appears just to be bait to get you to the next book....and there are lots of books in this series. The characters are shallow and do not appear to grow. The story line is interesting but does not deserve this kind of drawn out production. Since I started the series I have given up after 3 books but might by the last book just the close out the story line

What do you think your next listen will be?

    last book in series, maybe

What three words best describe Christian Rummel and Jack Campbell ’s performance?

    slow
