Ever since subscribing to Audible I've relished my 90+ minutes commuting each day. I listen mainly to Business and Personal Development titles as well as the occasional biography.

  • Markets Never Forget (But People Do): How Your Memory Is Costing You Money and Why This Time Isn't Different

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 50 mins)
    • By Ken Fisher
    • Narrated By Mel Foster

Best-selling author Ken Fisher here explains how investor's memories play (often costly) tricks on them. Fisher takes aim at some major market memory mishaps, like the idea that stocks have become inherently more volatile or that wildly above - or below - average returns are abnormal. He shows how, early in every recovery, investors don’t believe in it - often at a huge cost. And he shows how, in investing, ideology is deadly. Most important, he explains how you can use history as a powerful investing tool.

John says: "Important Things to Remember"
"I'll never forget the annoying style"
What disappointed you about Markets Never Forget (But People Do)?

The messages may well be very good ... but for me the combined content and narrator's delivery made this one of the most annoying books I've listened to. I'd describe the delivery style as almost "mocking".

Repetition may well be the mother of all learning but in this book it is overdone.

Listening to this book is a little like knocking your head on a brick wall can't wait till it is all over.

What was most disappointing about Ken Fisher’s story?

    Repetition. Style

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator's style matched the annoying content.

    Any additional comments?

I'll look carefully for this author and narrator in future and AVOID them both

  • Virtual Freedom: How to Work with Virtual Staff to Buy More Time, Become More Productive, and Build Your Dream Business

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 17 mins)
    • By Chris Ducker
    • Narrated By Gildart Jackson
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Entrepreneurs often suffer from "superhero syndrome" - the misconception that to be successful, they must do everything themselves. They are not only the boss but also the salesperson, HR manager, copywriter, operations manager, online marketing guru, and so much more. It's no wonder so many people give up the dream of starting a business - it's just too much for one person to handle. But outsourcing expert and "Virtual CEO" Chris Ducker knows how you can get the help you need with resources you can afford.

Mike Kelley says: "Awesome Audio Book - A MUST HAVE!"
"Virtual Freedom is achievable and I'm excited!"
If you could sum up Virtual Freedom in three words, what would they be?

This audiobook shows that Virtual Freedom is achievable but approaches it in a grounded realistic manner with proper consideration for the important aspects such as tools, people and cultures.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Virtual Freedom?

the entire content - this isn't a novel!

Which character – as performed by Gildart Jackson – was your favorite?

At times the narration was a little too slow, deliberate and robotic ... but the message was always clear.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

    not relevant

    Any additional comments?

This is one I'll need to listen to a few times and also refer to the reader supplement materials.

  • Poorly Made in China: An Insider's Account of the Tactics Behind China's Production Game

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 3 mins)
    • By Paul Midler
    • Narrated By Paul Midler
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

It was a world gone wrong, one in which manufacturers thought little of manipulating product quality levels in order to save the smallest amounts, where savvy foreign business leaders were made to feel in control while they were taken for a ride by their partners, where entire manufacturing facilities sometimes vanished right into thin air... Welcome to Poorly Made in China!

John Mckenzie says: "Hours of jaw dropping amazment"
    "Rethink business plans with China!"
Would you listen to Poorly Made in China again? Why?

Yes.. especially before doing business with a Chinese manufacturer.

What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?

If ever you were thinking of developing a business relationship with Chinese manufacturers then this book would make you think again.A great listen. Very insightful.

  • Axiom: Powerful Leadership Proverbs

    • UNABRIDGED (5 hrs and 38 mins)
    • By Bill Hybels
    • Narrated By Larry Black
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

The best leaders not only lead well but also reflect on their leadership long enough and thoughtfully enough to articulate what philosophies cause them to do so. Whether serving in the marketplace or in ministry, as executives or rank-and-file employees, as salaried staff or volunteer servants, they can pinpoint the rationale for their actions and decisions with the ease of reciting their home address.

    Kevin says: "Amazingly inspiring!"
"Axiom - Why I turned it off!"

I should never have bought this audiobook and wouldn't if I'd learned more about the author.

I wanted a good business leadership audiobook ..not one that sounded like it was a preaching.
