Who's murdering harmless old men? Who's poisoning the Patrician? As autumn fogs hold Ankh-Morpork in their grip, the City Watch has to track down a murderer who can't be seen. Browse more novels of Discworld.

    "Great story, Poor reader"
    Overall

This is one of my favorite stories by Pratchett. Unfortunately, the reader (Nigel Planer) makes all his characters sound like they have head colds and sub par IQ's. In the future, I'll stick to Pratchett books read by Steven Briggs. Planer lowered the review by a full Star.

Even in Empire City, a town where weird science is the hope for tomorrow, it's hard for a robot to make his way. It's even harder for a robot named Mack Megaton, a hulking machine designed to bring mankind to its knees. But Mack's not interested in world domination. He's just a bot trying to get by, trying to demonstrate that he isn't just an automated smashing machine, and to earn his citizenship in the process. It should be as easy as crushing a tank for Mack, but some bots just cant catch a break.

1930's Hard core detective story with space aliens and mutants. Oh, and the Dick is a robot. What more could you ask for?

This book was so much fun and refreshingly different, that I now own all A. Lee Martinez titles. Automatic Detective is still my favorite by Martinez. Mack Megaton could be the next Mickey Spillane. He deserves a sequel.

When Lister got drunk, he really got drunk! After celebrating his birthday with a Monopoly-board pub crawl around London, he came to in a burger bar on one of Saturns moons, wearing a lady's pink crimplene hat and a pair of yellow fishing waders, with no money and a passport in the name of "Emily Berkenstein". Joining the Space Corps seemed a good idea.

What a fun story. Great plot idea. Unexpected twists. The performance was terrific.

A guy gets drunk on earth and wakes up stranded in an outpost in space. A bit of a low life, but he has a low life plan to get home. A glimpse into his future shows things will come out all right. But then... the book ends.

What a fun book. I planned on adding this author to my repeat author list. But when, assuming I was half way through the book, it ended. Abruptly. Suddenly. Without warning. Did I mention it caught me off guard?

I won't spoil the book for you, but imagine this. You are reading Goldilocks and the Three Bears. But... Goldilocks doesn't get past the porridge because she dies of food poisoning, with her face in the bowl. Oh, and the bears don't come back. They got the same food poisoning. That'll wipe the smile off your face.

It wasn't till I looked up the book to write this review that it became apparent that it was the first part of a multi-part story. It sure didn't end that way. If I buy the next book, I may find out that a paramedic came along and pumped Goldilocks and the three bears stomachs so the story could continue. Not sure if I have the courage to find out. Maybe if there isn't a third part.

The reasoning for the rating: This would have earned 4 or maybe 5 stars had the story been completed. But since it was half of the story, I could only give half of the stars. It got one back for being a great performance.

The world will end on Saturday. Next Saturday. Just before dinner, according to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, the world's only completely accurate book of prophecies, written in 1655. The armies of Good and Evil are amassing and everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except that a somewhat fussy angel and a fast-living demon are not actually looking forward to the coming Rapture. And someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist.

This is a great melding of Pratchetts irreverent humor and Gaimens darker side. The unlikely partnership of an angel and a demon trying to save the world from the evil of the spiritual bureaucracy. I like a story with good guys in white hats and bad guys in black. You got the white and the black but I'm not sure which is which.

This is a lot of fun and hard to put down.

And all the stories are warmly, evocatively told by the world-renowned "voice" of Dr. Herriot: Christopher Timothy.

Science starts to get interesting when things don't make sense. Science's best-kept secret is that there are experimental results and reliable data that the most brilliant scientists can neither explain nor dismiss. If history is any precedent, we should look to today's inexplicable results to forecast the future of science. Michael Brooks heads to the scientific frontier to meet 13 modern-day anomalies and discover tomorrow's breakthroughs.

Rave reviews. Interesting concept. Looking for something different. Thought I'd found it, but then... For no apparent reason, the author decided that he had to give vent to his sexual phantasies. Twice, very explicit and detailed accounts of sexual relationships. I like sex as well as anybody but I couldn't figure what it had to do with the story. Well, if that's what you look for in a story, this is it. As for me, I prefer plot over literary titillation.

Fun story, and I enjoyed it except...
It isn't a complete story. This is reads more like part one of a story, not book one in a series. I would not suggest this book unless you are ready to buy the rest in the series. If you are, then, I'd give it one more star.
