Two days ago, Gabriela's life was normal. Then, out of the blue, she gets word that her six-year-old daughter has been taken. She's given an ultimatum: Pay half a million dollars and find a mysterious document known as the "October List" within 30 hours, or she'll never see her child again. A mind-bending novel with twists and turns that unfold from its dramatic climax back to its surprising beginning, The October List is Jeffery Deaver at his masterful, inventive best.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I did not like the concept or how the book was performed...I don't think it could be improved to make me feel it rates more than a 1 or 2.

What could Jeffery Deaver have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Too stereotypical and too much name dropping....not necessary for an author of Deaver's talent.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Ok performance, but I have heard much better.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Not really, it had too many twists to be realistic as a thriller.

    Any additional comments?

I look forward to better works from Jeffery Deaver.

"You can leave the army, but the army doesn’t leave you. Not always. Not completely," notes Jack Reacher - and sure enough, the retired military cop is soon pulled back into service. This time, for the State Department and the CIA. Someone has taken a shot at the president of France in the City of Light. The bullet was American. The distance between the gunman and the target was exceptional. How many snipers can shoot from three-quarters of a mile with total confidence? Very few, but John Kott - an American marksman gone bad - is one of them...

Where does Personal rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Lee Child has done it again! Jack Reacher will never get old as Child continues to let him evolve as a character. Excellent!

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes ... knowing Reacher but also knowing that things will NOT turn out the way they are heading keeps you going.

What about Dick Hill’s performance did you like?

Dick Hill ... is JACK REACHER. His mix of inflection is magnetic.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes

Throughout these books, Follett has followed the fortunes of five intertwined families - American, German, Russian, English, and Welsh - as they make their way through the twentieth century. Now they come to one of the most tumultuous eras of all: the enormous social, political, and economic turmoil of the 1960s through the 1980s, from civil rights, assassinations, mass political movements and Vietnam to the Berlin Wall, the Cuban Missile Crisis, presidential impeachment, revolution - and rock and roll.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

If you want a left slanted view of the sixties, seventies and eighties this book is for you. Sadly, Ken Follett, normally a brilliant storyteller let this one get away from him. This trilogy started brilliantly clearly outlining a potential epic story of U.S. ; U.K. ; German and Russian characters but stumbled in round two and whiffed in the finale.

What was most disappointing about Ken Follett’s story?

A poignant misread on the facts.

Have you listened to any of John Lee’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

John Lee is once again phenomenal.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Intense frustration as the story moved on.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Anyone who favors this genre needs to read this take on a vexing possibility.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes, because of the bounce between N. Korea and the rest of the action.

What does Armand Schultz bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

    Superb vocalizations

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

You think they wouldn't do it?

In the richest neighborhood of Minneapolis, two elderly women lie murdered in their home, killed with a pipe, the rooms tossed, only small items stolen. It is clearly the random work of someone looking for money to buy drugs. But as Davenport looks more closely, he begins to wonder whether the items are actually so small and the victims so random; if there might not be some invisible agenda at work here. Gradually, a pattern begins to emerge, and it leads him to...certainly nothing he ever expected.
