Jon Willing was just a teenager when he and his buddies Augie and Ben stole a fortune in drug money. Brazen with youth and stoned out of their gourds, they thought they had the perfect plan for getting away with it. They were wrong. Twenty-five years later, Jon’s marriage is in ruins, his kids are virtual strangers, and the recession has decimated his finances. When he finds Augie murdered in Vegas, Jon knows his past has risen from the grave to grab him by the throat. Now Jon Willing faces a choice: run to a paradise of wine and women and endless sunshine or confront the demons from his past and fight for what’s left of his imperfect suburban life.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Not only was this a page turner that caught and held my attention to the end, it was a clever, well-written story with fascinating insights into human nature. More than just fluff, but as exciting as any great action novel.

The Poisonwood Bible is a story told by the wife and four daughters of Nathan Price, a fierce evangelical Baptist who takes his family and mission to the Belgian Congo in 1959. They carry with them all they believe they will need from home, but soon find that all of it - from garden seeds to Scripture - is calamitously transformed on African soil.

Where does The Poisonwood Bible rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

My wife and I listened tho this book together while driving cross-country... Laughed, cried, and spent hours discussing the lives of this family. This the first time I have ever listened to an audiobook and then had to go out and buy the hard cover so we could sit and digest favorite passages together. A truly marvelous book by a talented wordsmith.
