Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, the tiny town of Big Stone Gap is home to some of the most charming eccentrics in the state. Ave Maria Mulligan is the town's self-proclaimed spinster, a thirty-five year old pharmacist with a "mountain girl's body and a flat behind." She lives an amiable life with good friends and lots of hobbies until the fateful day in 1978 when she suddenly discovers that she's not who she always thought she was.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If you are in the mood for a mellow read this is a great book for you.

    Any additional comments?

Admittedly I am a little biased about this book. My parents are from BSG and reading this one brings back childhood memories at the grandparent's house. It really is a lovely read. Not as outright gripping as some but I looked forward to every word. highly recommend!

In 2009, Susannah Cahalan woke up in a strange hospital room strapped to a bed, under guard, and unable to move or speak. Her medical records - from a month-long hospital stay of which she had no memory - reported psychosis, violence, and dangerous instability. Yet, only weeks earlier she had been a healthy, ambitious twenty-four-year-old, six months into her first serious relationship and a sparkling career as a cub reporter

Is there anything you would change about this book?

This is a very important story and could help a lot of people. It failed to really engage me though. Much of the detail of the content was monotonous. Excess verbiage could have been omitted which would have made it a more captivating read. That being said, I am very glad I read this one and will recommend to friends.

    Any additional comments?

I do highly recommend this book as a source of education. It is a good and speedy read.

Louisa Clark is an ordinary girl living an exceedingly ordinary life - steady boyfriend, close family - who has never been farther afield than her tiny village. In 1939, the Germans invaded the town of Lodz, Poland, and moved the Jewish population into a small part of the city called a ghetto. As the war progressed, 270,000 people were forced to settle in the ghetto under impossible conditions. At the end of the war, there were about 800 survivors. Of those who survived, only twelve were children. This is the story of one of the twelve.

What did you love best about Yellow Star?

This is a true story which needs to be told. It gives a new perspective on all that we have and shows great strength in a time of turmoil.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Sivia. Mainly because this is her story. I must say that her father quickly became my hero as well.

Would you be willing to try another one of Tavia Gilbert’s performances?

    Yes.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There is no moment in particular. This story is full of riveting and intense moments. I think that her family support system was incredible. Her father in particular was her "rock".

    Any additional comments?

The narration is spoken in a whine, through the entire story. While I get the anguish this young women must have felt, her strength shines through in the story. I can not imagine Sivia whining out this story. The narrator did not do this story justice. If I had it to do over I would have read the book rather than listen.

Waking up in Vegas was never meant to be like this. Evelyn Thomas' plans for celebrating her 21st birthday in Las Vegas were big. Huge. But she sure never meant to wake up on the bathroom floor with a hangover to rival the black plague, a very attractive half-naked tattooed man in her room, and a diamond on her finger large enough to scare King Kong. Now if she could just remember how it all happened. One thing is certain, being married to one of the hottest rock stars on the planet is sure to be a wild ride.

    What disappointed you about Lick?

The entire story line was just... ridiculous. That is the word that comes to my mind when I think of this book. It seems like a very immature book although I would never recommend it to a young person because of the sexual content. It was predictable and silly.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I will find something but it will not be anything similar to this book.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

I would have liked to hear a more realistic voice for the male character. Perhaps a deeper voice. (I know, that is hard for females).

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The only redeeming quality is the warm and fuzzy at the end and the strength the female character developed near the end.

    Any additional comments?

I would not recommend this book.

What did you love best about The Girl Who Played with Fire?

I love the continuation of this story. The author brings it to the next level in thickening the plot. We learn more about the main characters.

What about Simon Vance’s performance did you like?

Simon Vance is outstanding! I enjoy his voice and he's very good at seperating the different characters.

    Any additional comments?

The first 25 to 30% of this book is a reintroduction to the characters etc... I thought that it took too much of this book to do that task which is the only reason I did not rate it at 5-stars. Still a worthwhile read and very captivating once you get past the first 4th.

Why we think it’s a great listen: How do you one-up a book that’s already a global literary phenomenon? Hire Simon Vance to (flawlessly) interpret the loves, lives, and murders of Sweden’s cold and secret-filled world. A spellbinding amalgam of murder mystery, family saga, love story, and financial intrigue. It's about the disappearance 40 years ago of Harriet Vanger, a young scion of one of the wealthiest families in Sweden.

If you could sum up The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in three words, what would they be?

    Suspense. Awesome. Thriller.

I really enjoyed this book. There were so many twists and turns that it left me unable to put it down. The narration is outstanding. Characters are well developed. I will highly recommend this great read.

Would you consider the audio edition of Tom Clancy Presents: Act of Valor to be better than the print version?

Really loved this one in audio version. The narrator was outstanding at depicting the different character's voices and the urgency (and danger) of the situations. I'm sure that the print version would be good as well.

What about Steven Weber’s performance did you like?

Steven Weber was oustanding in narrating this book.

    Any additional comments?

This one hits the nail on the head with detail! I was drawn in to the characters and the story. I found myself in tears on a few occasions. I would highly recommend this book!
