My children and I have a long commute in the morning and audiobooks in general have made this a much more pleasant experience. This series has been engaging for my 7 year old AND my 16 year old - keeping both of their attentions for the entire drive. Plus, they have learned a great deal of geography and culture from the series. I would highly recommend these books for anyone who listens to audiobooks with children and adults too!
This book is excellent. If you like an epic tale of struggle, misfortune and meager survival then this book is for you.
However, this book is also brutal, bloody and full of graphic descriptions of horrific child abuse. If you are sqeamish, don't try this.
I honestly can't say that I understand why this book has such a high rating. If it weren't for my policy to never give up on an audiobook, I can honestly say that I would never have finished this one. IT WAS SO BORING! I kept waiting for it to get better, but it stayed completely dull until the bitter end.
Maybe this genre just isn't my cup of tea, but I did not enjoy this book. Frankly, my own life is more interesting and I expect way more than that to be entertained.
Wouldn't know. I don't have time to read print books.
Oberon - the dog - an EXCELLENT character and an even better narration of his voice.
This is a first.
You can learn a lot in 2000 years.
I'm not usually much into the whole supernatural culture thing but I have found a few series (Dresden, Charlie Davidson, Black Dagger Brotherhood - the early books) where the story itself is good enough to make the supernatural stuff plausible. Surprisingly, this one was as well! I am always on the lookout for another good series and I have to admit that I enjoyed this one a lot more than I expected.
It is worth a listen just for the dog. Oberon is a gem and the narration of his voice is hilarious. I will definitely be listening to more of these.
