Excellent third installment in the Prequel to the Prequel of the Dune series. When I finished it, I was sad to hear in the interview with the authors, that they really did not seem to plan to continue with another series. It seems that the transition from VenKey Enterprises (Norma) to the Spacing Guild, as well as the development of the Reverend Mothers would be the next point to be covered. As anyone reading this can see, the key to Brian's and Kevin's Genius, is that it can go on.
I have listened to the first Five books via Audible. I read Fiery Cross and Breath of Snow and Ashes in paperback since I ready hate abridged versions of anything. After finishing Ech of the Bone, I thought I missed something, since I didn't think Diana would live Jemmy "in the dark", so I went out and checked out the hardback from the Ann Arbor Library and read along with the last of the six audio segments over again, but sure enough -> Jemmy, Brianna, Mandy, and Roger are "out there". That was a little shock, but I am still in love with this book as well as with the series, due both to Diana's writing and character development but also ti Davina's great narration and character voices.
This work rates an unabridged edition. The narrator does a good job with what she is given, but too much has been cut out It seems lke only highlights of Morgaine's life are handles. Nothing before is handled. THe magic of Bradley's book is how the entire cronicle is handled from a non readitional angle. THe magic is cut off by the abridgement.
