Wonderful fun. . . Now that audible has kindly given me the last chapter missing on my first version. I was specially happy my complaint was address and a solution found.
I love the story, but I feel Pullman is a bit too realistic when putting his characters through life's tragedies which would be fine if from time to time there were also happy unrealistic endings. I guess you love the characters so much it really is a bit disappointing when they don't ride happily into the sunset. When the story was getting a bit too grim for my taste it was definitely the narrator with his voice and pace that kept me hooked.
Sally and Frederick's Love scene
He does a perfect job for every character
The death of the dog made me cry
it was annoying that they changed the narrator. Gerard Doyle is the best, and had already done the first two books. In this last one the new narrator changes the names with a different name of pronouncing them. Quite annoying
It is a wonderful book. I have heard it 4 times and love it. Yes it's true it's a mixture or Lord of the Rings, Dunes, Star Wars and other fantasy classics, but beautifully done. Elves, Dragons, Dawrfs are not a new idea, but Paolini makes a wonderful mixture and a brilliant story. I was terribly offended by the movie and hope people don't judge the story by the movie. Read/listen to it. It's worth it.
It's a classic, it's considered the meca of literature, it's genious, but if you just want a mortal's opinion:it's long, it's sad, repetitive (Mock the old man, laugh at the old man, beat the old man. Laugh again) and cruel (because of course DQ is adorable and it's not fun to have him mocked all the time). I suppose it's a must if you want to have any kind of culture, but I am glad I was washing/painting/driving while getting my culture and not just reading it.
In my family we have a saying "... and then the dog pissed on him" which in this case means I thought the violence Jamie is subjected to is too much. I am temped with the sequel, but am afraid to find yet more violence and that "the dog did indeed piss on him". Somethings are too horrible to even read about for me personally, yet, the Jamie's tragedies seem to be most of the plot to a point where they get boring. Other than that, the story could be quite enjoyable.
Great for lovers of mafic and fantasy, not just kids
It's very dynamic, fun and easy, because you don't get bored (as in other programs where one repeats tediously). I wish there were sequel for higher levels.
