I loved this book. I learned so much about Hungary. The country was ravaged by war and leaders. The stories of the Jewish traumas are so personal and poignant. Beautiful writing!
Lots of twists and turns for the girl on the train. Fast moving, different stories and tied together very well.
The narrator of this book is excellent. His voice is smooth and strong depicting the character of the men on this journey--smooth Rough Riders.
Yes! It is read by the author, and he is brilliant.
Those by Wendell Berry and Michael Pollan. Barber offers such hope to another way of living and eating.
He was articulate, passionate and so knowledgeable.
I would love to hear more books read by their authors--they understand their writing and can communicate it.
The reader was excellent. And the story was tight and true to his development of the characters.
Excellent depiction of each character.
Henchard's inevitable return to his beginning.
Hardy is not optimistic about human nature or life but quite realistic. So much of his depiction of us human beings still rings true--a classic.
The dog's thinking and witty lines.
Oh, his voice and humor added so much! He got into that dog's body.
The love of the dog for his master .
Just get it and listen with a fellow dog lover. You'll laugh and cry together.
This story is redundant. I had not read anything by Murakami; the book was given to me as a Christmas gift. I don't particularly like stories that are the "science fiction" type. However, I continued to listen because the plot was interesting at first--then it just got slow. I found myself speeding up the read and skipping sections. It is entirely too long; however, I think the readers do convey the Japanese setting.
I was repulsed by the description of "The Leader" having a sustained erection while he was paralyzed and mounted by ten-year-old prepubescent girls. I also think the repetitive descriptions of breasts left me bored.
The plot is definitely different.
Reader was slow, boring and dry. I could not stand the story, but I stuck with it for half the book. Finally, decided I had better things to do with my time and many wonderful books to read (or listen to.) I have listened to all of Steig Larrson's books and loved them; this was recommended for me;not in the same league.
