I love almost all my audio books--different reasons for different books. Buying this one caused me to buy the second in the series.
The dialog between Jasmine and Gabriel was too long, too overwrought, and too unbelievable.
I much enjoyed her other books, but this falls short mostly because the really interesting characters get the least attention.
George Guidall or Scott Brick would have been infinitely better.
I quit reading in the middle and didn't take it up again until I ran out of other things to listen to.
Whereas I like all the Dark Series books (especially rereading them in order) Juanita Parker's poor diction and poor pronunciation make me a bit crazy--she sounds ignorant. She adds and deletes consonants and sometimes emphasizes the wrong part of a multi-syllabic word.
Otherwise, I wish Ms Feehan would strike "molten" and "white hot heat" from her vocabulary.
I finished this book because I paid for it. The plot is thin, the characters puerile, the writing sophomoric, the environment questionable, and the research thin. The only thing that might be worse is the narrator. I've listened to 100's of books, and this is the only one which prompted me to write a review.
Simon Prebble's narration raises the passion and mystery of all Ms Lauren's book to the highest level of entertainment. His subtle changes of tone and volume make each character recognizable and understandable. I search out his narrations.
Hold Tight is a great book. My only complaint is narrator Scott Brick who exhibits a tight urgency and a consistent tone regardless of plot tone or background description. He possesses no lightness or humor.
Bring back Jonathan Marosz or get George Guidall.
Ian McKellen brought this book to life. He is the best reader I've ever heard, bringing wonder and mystery and excitement to the narrative as well as to the dialog.
If this book is the first of a series, I hope he reads them all.
