  • The Toyota Way

    • UNABRIDGED (4 hrs and 39 mins)
    • By Jeffrey Liker
    • Narrated By Grover Gardner

In factories around the world, Toyota consistently makes the highest-quality cars with the fewest defects of any competing manufacturer, while using fewer man-hours, less on-hand inventory, and half the floor space of its competitors. The Toyota Way is the first book for a general audience that explains the management principles and business philosophy behind Toyota's worldwide reputation for quality and reliability.

Staci says: "Skips to Many Parts of the Book"
    "Good principles, distracting language"

This book describes in great detail the processes used by Toyota to streamline their manufacturing process and build-in quality. The reader was engaging and the topics interestingly developed with illustrations. However for each topic, the japanese term associated with the topic was read. That in itself wouldn't be so bad except that I couldn't remember the different terms when he referred back to the Japanese terms. A little irritating but overall a good book in the fashion of the 5 S's or LEAN manufacturing.

  • Stumbling on Happiness

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 26 mins)
    • By Daniel Gilbert

    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

A smart and funny book by a prominent Harvard psychologist, which uses groundbreaking research and (often hilarious) anecdotes to show us why we're so lousy at predicting what will make us happy, and what we can do about it.

    Terril Lowe says: "Great Book!"
"Love the Audiobook... had to get the Hard copy too"

This book filled in the blanks that I didn't know I had with regard to searching for Happiness. There is no way to tell about this book... so just read it. It will do you good.

  • Shadow Divers: Two Americans Who Risked Everything to Solve One of the Last Mysteries of WWII

    • UNABRIDGED (15 hrs and 31 mins)
    • By Robert Kurson
    • Narrated By Michael Prichard
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

In 1991, acting on a tip from a local fisherman, two scuba divers discovered a sunken German U-boat, complete with its crew of 60 men, not too far off the New Jersey coast. The divers, realizing the momentousness of their discovery, began probing the mystery. Over the next six years, they became expert and well-traveled researchers, taught themselves German, hunted for clues in Germany, and constructed theories corrective of the history books, all in an effort to identify this sunken U-boat and its crew.

    Douglas says: "GRIPPING!"
    "Didn't want it to end"

The story line was great... and taught me a fair amount about diving. It was full of suspense and had pretty good character development. The language used in the 'dialogue between friends' caught me off guard, but once I realized it had significant cursing and swearing... I realized it was a book for my ears only.

  • Leadership and Self-Deception: Getting Out of the Box

    • UNABRIDGED (4 hrs and 34 mins)
    • By The Arbinger Institute
    • Narrated By William Dufris

Most personal and organizational problems are the result of a little-known problem called "self-deception". We deceive ourselves into thinking we're doing the right thing for the right reason, but people won't follow a leader whose motives are selfish. The tricky thing is, we don't know that our motivation is flawed.

Sean says: "Not quite "out of the box""

This is so simple, yet so profound. This book really spoke to me and helped me see my leadership flaws, especially in relating to people. I saw applications for my relationship with my wife and my children. It really was enlightening and I appreciate a co-worker recommenting it to me. The book was told in story form and the reader did an excellent job voicing the different characters.

  • The Abolition of Man & The Great Divorce

    • UNABRIDGED (4 hrs and 27 mins)
    • By C.S. Lewis
    • Narrated By Simon Vance

Have we been taught to discount the veracity and deeper meaning of our emotional resonance with the world around us? In The Abolition of Man, C.S. Lewis looks at the curriculum of the English "prep school" and begins to wonder if this subliminal teaching has indeed produced a generation who discount such a nature.

Joseph says: "Two great (but quite different) gems from CSL"

The Great Divorce was absolutely fascinating and held my attention to the very end. I loved the reader and the content challenged my traditional ideas about eternity. Great book. The Abolition of Man was a little weighty for me however. More philosophical than I care for.
