I enjoyed this very much. If you haven't read or listened to this book in the past few years, or ever, I suggest that you do now. It is a lot of fun.
I have not yet read the print version of Bloody Jack although I have downloaded to my Kendell. I just can not imagine the print version being nearly as good as the audio (which for me is true of most books). Katherine Kellgren was fantastic in her portrayal of each an every character.
Comparing Bloody Jack to other books, I would say Oliver Twist in style and Robinson Crusoe for content.
Mary (Bloody Jack) was my favorite character but I liked Charlie a lot, even though he appeared only briefly early in the book he showed character and bravery by standing up to those who had all the power and in his own right was a leader with compassion.
There were so many moments in this book that moved me it is not possible to point to just one.
This was a book that I could not put down and spent every moment that I could spare listening to it. At the end,I just did not want it to end.
I have never given a book five stars in each category, this was my first.
I would recommend Mysterious Island to anyone who likes adventure stories. This book has mystery and excitement seldom found.
This is a fast moving story continuously presenting the unexpected.
I very much enjoyed the scenes when the characters discovered and built their dwelling in side of the mountain.
This book is packed with interesting twist and turns. The main character, a college professor acts more like a love sick teenager. Technically the book is well written but I feel the character development lacks a great deal. It is a romance novel, short and simple. I did not expect that. I think younger and more romantic inclined readers might enjoy this book more than I did.
The lead character acted like a love sick teenager.
This is one of those books that I had to work at to complete; in the end however I am glad that I did. I did not like many of the characters and it was necessary to keep in mind that their lives were very limited, they did not meet many different people and did not travel far. The author demonstrates a great understanding of a strange mind.
Although I was just a boy during the time frame of this manuscript, I found the charactors totaly foreign. Drugs, alcohol and meaningless relationships. I did not like any of the charactors. They were all one diminsional jerks thinking only of themselves. Still, I could not stop listening.
After listening to Beach Road I alsmost decided to not to waste anymore time or money with Patterson. Judge & Jury on the otherhand is a fast paced exciting book. I enjoyed it quite a lot.
This same old story line has been used over and over again. As another reviewer said, " this is a cookie cutter book". Another reviewer stated that the only reason he gave it two stars is that he managed to finesh it. That is why I also gave it two stars. In an unsuccessful attempt to shock the reader, he totaly recreated the lead charactor at the end of the book. The multiple readers did not bother me. It was the only thing I liked about the book.
Finally, if I may quote a third fellow reviewer: "Don't bother"!
