For centuries, the legend of Robin Hood and his band of thieves has captivated the imagination. Now the familiar tale takes on new life, fresh meaning, and an unexpected setting. Hunted like an animal by Norman invaders, Bran ap Brychan, heir to the throne of Elfael, has abandoned his father's kingdom and fled to the greenwood. There, in the primeval forest of the Welsh borders, danger surrounds him, for this woodland is a living, breathing entity with mysterious powers and secrets.

Where does Hood rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I really enjoyed this book. It has enough differences from previous Robin Hood stories that it stays interesting.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Hood?

I enjoyed the banter between the characters. Their emotional life was realistic

    Which scene was your favorite?

I enjoyed how Bran was changed by events that caused him to mature into a man.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The social injustice is the driving force of the book. There were still a lot of other things going on to keep the story moving.

    Any additional comments?

If you enjoy Robin Hood. The sit back, relax and enjoy being in his world. This is more a story of how Hood became the man he was. It isn't alway pretty or comfortable.

This mesmerizing first novel tells the epic journey of Lin, an escaped convict who flees maximum security prison in Australia to disappear into the underworld of contemporary Bombay. Accompanied by his guide and faithful friend, Prabaker, Lin searches for love and meaning while running a clinic in one of the city's poorest slums and serving his apprenticeship in the dark arts of the Bombay mafia. The keys to unlock the mysteries that bind Lin are held by two people: his mentor Khader Khan, mafia godfather and criminal-philosopher; and the beautiful, elusive Karla, whose passions are driven by dangerous secrets.

This is a very solid story/autobiography. The main character is extremely likable. His story resonates with the struggle in all of us. It is the struggle of an imperfect human to survive life and a tribute to the kindness, strength and beauty of those he meets along the way. This book was an unexpected treasure and a very enjoyable listen.

Twenty-eight florins a month is a huge price to pay for a man to stand between you and the Wild. Twenty-eight florins a month is nowhere near enough when a wyvern's jaws snap shut on your helmet in the hot stink of battle, and the beast starts to rip the head from your shoulders. But if standing and fighting is hard, leading a company of men - or worse, a company of mercenaries - against the smart, deadly creatures of the Wild is even harder. It takes all the advantages of birth, training, and the luck of the devil to do it.

    Story

I bought this book because it was on sale. I was pleasantly surprised to find a new author and his characters to love. May I have some more, please? The story was so well written that I cried at the funeral of the Mother Superior. I even cryed when the Red Knight's horse was killed. I cared about the characters. I hurt, struggled and triumped when they did. The narrator had perfect delivery. He went from an ancient nun to a rowdy solidier seamlessly. I laughed at the rough soldier humor and cringed when they cussed in front of the nuns. I really appreciate a villian that is written sympathetically and a hero that is written with a dark side. It makes the story so much more interesting. I really had doubts how this would end. At any time it could have gone several ways. If you enjoy swords, knights, and fantasy then you will enjoy this book.

Jake Sullivan is a licensed private eye with a seriously hardboiled attitude. He also possesses raw magical talent and the ability to make objects in his vicinity light as a feather or as heavy as depleted uranium, all with a magical thought. It's no wonder the G-men turn to Jake when they need someoneto go after a suspected killer who has been knocking off banks in a magic-enhanced crime spree.

Would you consider the audio edition of Hard Magic to be better than the print version?

This is the first book by this author that I have read/listened to. I found it very entertaining.

What other book might you compare Hard Magic to and why?

I found this story very unique. I would say this was like a cross between Laurell K Hamilton and John Ringo. It is dark and brutal but hilarious at the same time.

What does Bronson Pinchot bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Bronson Pinchot does an excellent job. His interpretation of the characters really brings the characters to life. He captures the annoying slow speach of one while expressing the childish evil behavior of a young girl.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I don't think this story is about extreme reactions. It is just a wild ride from start to finish. I really couldn't figure out what was going to happen next or how it would end.

    Any additional comments?

This was a very enjoyable experience. I would strongly recommend it to anyone who wants to escape reality for a while... for a long while.

The world had become used to the metahumans - people sometimes perfectly ordinary, but sometimes quite extraordinary in appearance - who mostly worked with their governments as high-powered peace officers, fighting crime, and sometimes fighting rogue metahumans who had become super-criminals. Then that comfortable world ended in just one terrifying day.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I wouldn't recommend this book to a friend. This book was like a writer's holiday. There was tons of potential but it didn't go anywhere. I found it very disappointing. Even if it is the start of a series, the authors owe the reader something. This was a long set up to nothing.

If you’ve listened to books by the authors before, how does this one compare?

I am a big fan of Mecedes Lackey. This is not her usual excellent work

Was Invasion worth the listening time?

I felt cheated and was glad when the book was over.
