I am atheist. I was looking for something more interesting than this. I did not find the content thought provoking, No humor. No insights. At best it was an honest discourse on atheism. I appreciate the effort of Dr Dawkins and respect him but this book is a drab. He does not read it well either. And why the two people reading this?
This book had any uncanny connection to books by David Rosenfelt. The narrator - Grover Gardner is the narrator of Andy Carpenter series. The books main characters are Andy and Laurie, same as in David Rosenfelt's Andy Carpenter series. And for a minute I thought eh...is it...but I could not have been more wrong. This is not a crime thriller but a book which touches the emotions of parents and kids involved in a issue which can be at best considered "abnormal" The building of characters, their handling of the complex issues and emotions is managed in a beautiful way, by actions and spoken words rather than description of the state of mind. It has its few surprises, twist and turns which could get it classified as a crime thriller, but I would rather call it a very good gripping story of managing very complex issues in a family which is jolted out of their normal existence by a crime!
Go ahead. It is worth that credit.
This is amazing way to tell the story of modern India. The characters are awesome. The plot is outrageous but possible in the crazy new India. But all that apart, this book is hilarious! It is a dark comedy. Do not think too much. This will be funny and interesting irrespective of the genre you normally love. I am a "mystery and thriller" for the traffic and exercises type of a guy...but this book was a well fit for me. This is not the "heavy" stuff which usually comes with award winners.
This book is fast paced, a bit faster than you will expect. There is no dull moment and never does the author linger into describing the mountains. It is a thriller to the core. It is not a conventional hostage drama, the twist and turns surprise and keep you gripped. Any lover of thrillers will thoroughly enjoy it. It will not be really worth describing the character and plot in the review. The character building is also as fast as the rest of the book. But the book is not about the character, it is how the characters behave in crises. Speed and Thrills. Worth the credit!
I have to yet to come across a book by Linwood Barclay where the plot or the characters are not unique. The suspense, the surprises, the twits and turns of the plot keep you gripped. This book in no exception to this. A unique plot with unique characters which kept me gripped from start to the last chapter. I would rather not discuss the plot and characters or try to be a critic, if a book is engages me like this one did, I give it top marks. Go for it, you will not be disappointed if you love mysteries and thrillers!
Nope, this book does not deserve a long review. it just deserves stars. LOL, LOL, LOL, LOL, LOL - all are stars!
Go for it. there are a no disappointments in this book if you have a sense of humor and can enjoy fiction as fiction!
Unless you get annoyed with the Croatian accent this book is a laugh riot. It is without a serious plot, it just the narrative and style which is funny. A hit man escapes and takes an identity of priest in Iceland. But the events, goof ups, the characters and the wise cracks made the book worth listening to. I was laughing aloud at some instance. I do not think this book would have been as funny if it was read without the accent. It is a short book. Worth for a relaxed trip!
Check out the sample before you download, there is a thick eastern European accent at may not be something you can decipher.
Smile through the book.Laugh aloud many a times. Feel some good suspense and thrills to hold the laughter! It is always worth it. Terra has not been given the due attention in this book. Next time :) If you have heard Andy Carpenter books this is a easy choice. If you are new...welcome to the world of humor-thrillers-Go for it!
Only realy disappointment in this book was that I cam to know that this is kind of a fantasy/sci-fi fiction after going to some part of the book. I had chosen it as a regular "on the earth" thriller. Usually I do not like out of the earth stuff, but I managed to complete this book as the characters are interesting, there is structure to the book which keeps you engaged, it move at the right pace to keep you interetsed for the next event. So, I enjoyed it. You too can, provided you are not turned off by a step out of this planet!
It is a good thriller.Keeps you gripped even after you have guessed who the culprit is after 60% - 70% of the book. The style of writing, the characters and the pace keeps one interested. The plot is not something which I can say " I have not come across before"
For Lisa fans it is below expectation. Could have been better, for others give it a go...it will keep you thrilled!
Lisa Gardner keeps you on the edge. Well crafted and well performed.
On a scale of 1-10 for mystery and thriller lovers:
Predictability - 7 you will have to cross 60% of the book before your guessing works
Connection to reality - 4 - Well, the characters and plot are invented for your pleasure, you will not find them anywhere in your neighbourhood. The Detective is as she is in her other novels, well crafted charachter you can connect with. Rest is sheer outrageous imagination.
The Flow and the plot - 7 - Will keep you gripped form the first 5 minutes
Fun / humor - There is none in her books ever, so none here too
