I own a small shop selling custom/costume Jewelry. I love to listen to audio books while I create jewelry. I love all animals and get very upset when they aren't treated well, even in fiction.

It's summer in Memphis. The sweat is sticking to Rudy Baylor's shirt and creditors are nipping at his heels. Once he had aspirations of breezing through law school and punching his ticket to the good life. Now he doesn't have a joy or a prayer...except for one: an insurance dispute that leaves a family devastated and opens the door for a lawsuit, if Rudy can find a way to file it.

By far and away my favorite Grisham Book! Has both tears and laughter. A good lesson about what is wrong with the Health Care / Insurance mess in the states.

The year is 2008 and Samantha Kofer's career at a huge Wall Street law firm is on the fast track - until the recession hits and she gets downsized, furloughed, escorted out of the building. Samantha, though, is one of the "lucky" associates. She's offered an opportunity to work at a legal aid clinic for one year without pay, after which there would be a slim chance that she'd get her old job back. In a matter of days Samantha moves from Manhattan to Brady, Virginia, population 2,200, in the heart of Appalachia, a part of the world she has only read about.

I admit I have not finished listening to this title yet and will probably return it. I think the correct title for this book should be the rape of the mountains. Okay I get it already coal is evil. I feel like this book is just preaching about the evils of coal. There is a storyline and it's fascinating, but when every few pages we get a tirade or sermon about all the horrible things the coal companies are doing...? I understand that message is important- it needs to get across but when it feels like 40 to 50% of the book is a sermon again coal, that's not what I want to listen to in my spare time. One sermon at the beginning of the book would've been sufficient...
I like the narrator and I like the fact that it's the first of Grisham's books I have read where the main character is a woman. I thought this book had incredible potential and was really looking forward to reading it -but...

  • The Truth About Cruise Ships: A Cruise Ship Officer Survives the Work, Adventure, Alcohol, and Sex of Ship Life

A finalist in the Global eBook Awards, this is a behind-the-scenes look at cruise ships in a way that's never been done before. Some of the stories are shocking, some are enlightening, but most are just laugh-out-loud entertaining. Jay Herring was an American senior officer and one of the few who had physical access to the entire ship. Interviewed on TV by ABC, radio by NPR, and in print by USA Today, The Huffington Post, and Frommers, he worked with every department and every senior officer.

I downloaded this title with a great deal of trepidation. Probably wouldn't have if audible did not have a return guarantee. But, surprisingly it was wonderful! I loved just about every moment of it. (I admit that when the author started to talk about animal testing I turned the volume off for a minute or two -that I can always live without). As a ex travel agent I've been on a lot of cruises and this was very interesting. Yes, he talked a lot about sex and booze but not in a way that I found offensive. Some "romantic" authors have sex scenes that go on for pages and pages and pages.(how boring can you get?) I tend to fast-forward through those. This book, I thoroughly enjoyed! If you have been on cruises, or thinking about taking one , I think you would enjoy it too!

Listening to this book I couldn't help feeling that I was reading a fictionalized account of Steven Stayner and it was fascinating. I wanted to listen to the book all in one sitting and yet I wanted it to last much longer than it did. The narration was spot on! Wish there could be a sequel-I would be in line to buy it!
Memorable characters that you actually care about the book left me feeling like I knew a whole new family.

Could have, should have been much better. Two narrators, One excellent one mediocre, Sandra Burr, (clan of the cave bear) was wonderful! The male narrator gave such a forgettable performance that I have conveniently enough, forgotten his name. This story lacked the depth of characters that I'm used to seeing in Jodi Picoult's books I also didn't appreciate the gratuitous cruelty to animals.

The ultimate feel-good book! "Slammed" is like the first bite of a hot fudge sundae. If you are reading this, and you haven't yet heard "Slammed"I must say I envy you the experience. Boy girl story with lots of unexpected twists and turns, tears, and laughter. At times I felt myself in envying Lake, but mostly I just admired her. I fell in love with Will at first listen.

    Highly highly recommended!

Addy Hanlon has always been Beth Cassidy's best friend and trusted lieutenant. Beth calls the shots and Addy carries them out, a long-established order of things that has brought them to the pinnacle of their high-school careers. Now they're seniors who rule the intensely competitive cheer squad, feared and followed by the other girls -- until the young new coach arrives.

Cool and commanding, an emissary from the adult world just beyond their reach, Coach Colette French draws Addy and the other cheerleaders into her life. Only Beth, unsettled by the new regime, remains outside Coach's golden circle, waging a subtle but vicious campaign to regain her position as "top girl" -- both with the team and with Addy herself.

Then a suicide focuses a police investigation on Coach and her squad. After the first wave of shock and grief, Addy tries to uncover the truth behind the death -- and learns that the boundary between loyalty and love can be dangerous terrain.

The raw passions of girlhood are brought to life in this taut, unflinching exploration of friendship, ambition, and power. Award-winning novelist Megan Abbott, writing with what Tom Perrotta has hailed as "total authority and an almost desperate intensity," provides a harrowing glimpse into the dark heart of the all-American girl.

Eva never really wanted to be a mother - and certainly not the mother of a boy who ends up murdering seven of his fellow high school students, a cafeteria worker, and a much-adored teacher who tried to befriend him, all two days before his 16th birthday. Now, two years later, it is time for her to come to terms with marriage, career, family, parenthood, and Kevin’s horrific rampage, in a series of startlingly direct correspondences with her estranged husband, Franklin.

I had the feeling listening to this that I was being read a college textbook. Information was repeated over and over and over again~I kept waiting for the pop quiz and the final exam! There was some good information in this book, but a lot of it was really common sense things like don't stand around talking to your colleagues when there are customers in the store ---I mean HELLO!?! Who doesn't know that???
