The wildest story in the world these days is not fiction; it's what's really happening all around us as the world's global economy has gone into freefall. How did we get here? What does it all mean? How could so many smart people be so dumb and believe their own hype? Accessibly, cleverly, and with mordant humor, journalist John Lanchester trots the globe in search of the answers to these questions.

I couldn't stop listening! This book really helped me understand global economics. I enjoyed how the book broke down stocks, bonds, loans and helped my understand how so many people got sucked into the ride.
This book is well written, well narrated and SO not dry!

Practical Melanie Middleton hates to admit she can see ghosts. But she's going to have to accept it. An Old man she recently met has died, leaving her his historic Tradd Street home, complete with housekeeper, dog - and a family of ghosts anxious to tell her their secrets.

I liked the concept of the book but I didn't like Melanie. I was annoyed and frustrated with the bossy, coy southern bell that doesn't like dogs and yet gets annoyed that someone gives her inherited dog some toys! I didn't like the fact that she specialized in selling old homes and yet hates everything not modern.
I would put this book in the young romance section, a predictable story, no curse words, romance?....a couple of kisses and sleeping on the couch, oh hum.

While watching TV one day, Ruby Kincaid catches sight of her runaway daughter Violet in a commercial. Quicker than a jackrabbit, Ruby makes up her mind to head straight for Tinseltown and reclaim her wayward daughter - even if she has to lasso her. MoonPies and Movie Stars is Amy Wallen's snappy, sassy, and sensational debut novel. A hysterical romp across the Southwest, it pits a spunky Texan mom against the star-studded power of Hollywood.

Boy if my maiden name wasn't McCoy and I didn't live in San Jose I would have said this book was a snoozer. The book stops at a lot of bay area towns that I can visualize but not sure that other people would be interested in and I didn't think the towns added much to the story.

A summer at his grandparents' South Dakota ranch is not 11-year-old Cooper Sullivan's idea of a good time. But things are a bit more bearable now that he's discovered the neighbor girl, Lil Chance, and her homemade batting cage. Even horseback riding isn't as awful as Coop thought it would be. Each year, with Coop's annual summer visit, their friendship deepens from innocent games to stolen kisses, but there is one shared experience that will forever haunt them: the terrifying discovery of a hiker's body.

I could relate to Cooper and Lil's upbringing and if I had read this book 40 years ago I would have fallen in love with reading. But at the age of 60, this book is predictable with little suspense. I would highly recommend this book for young adults. Lil is a strong smart role model for women and Cooper an honorable young man.
I have to admit this is my first Nora Roberts book so if this is typical, then I will probably pass on her other books.

If history really belongs to the victor, what happens when there's more than one side declaring victory? That's the conundrum Norman Davies unravels in his groundbreaking book No Simple Victory. Far from being a revisionist history, No Simple Victory instead offers a clear-eyed reappraisal, untangling and setting right the disparate claims made by America, Great Britain, France, and the Soviet Union in order to get at the startling truth.

I keep thinking about the protesters complaining about the U.S. using water boarding!!

He is respected in his community, tenacious in the courtroom, and happy at home with his wife, Laurie, and son, Jacob. But when a shocking crime shatters their New England town, Andy is blindsided by what happens next: his 14-year-old son is charged with the murder of a fellow student.
