I kept listening and listening and waiting for the story to develop. Lots of sexial small talk and provacative situations but the story is just so terribly slow in developing.
Having been in the Navy myself, some of the details surrounding how Navy personnel tlak and act are far, far off.
Gave up on the book after 6 hours of listening.
Get to the point. Keep the story moving. Don't go on about senseless detail.
Yawn. Next book.
Ender's Games is four times better than his sequel Speaker for the Dead. I would sit in my car a few extra minutes since I was so engaged with Ender's Game. Good choice for a movie.
However, I could barely wait for Speaker for the Dead to end. I nearly gave up since it moved so slowly. You could take 150 pages out of Speaker for the Dead and not miss a thing. Yawn.
Not sure there is anything I liked best. It seemed competent but at no times excellent. The charachter (Jack) is portrayed as so infallible and so insightful and so smart it just comes off somewhat silly to me. The five rules for fighting 5 guys in a bar - c'mon, really? 13 years as a military cop and he is smarter than anyone else on the planet.
The end of the story was so rediculously unrealistic. Not trying to give away the story. But there are a lot more law enforcement resources to call beyond local cops.
No, I think I am going to give up on Lee. Movie or not for Jack Reach, there are better choices out there. I tried a couple of his other books and they were mostly missess too. I wanted to like this book but it disappointed.
Narration was adequate.
No, it filled drive time but that's about it.
Find another book. In my opinion, try something like the Dave Robicheaux books. Much better written and narrated.
I think it could have been a complete story is half as many pages. I was bored half way through the book and kept looking to see how much time was left so I could get onto my next book. I really wanted to like this book after listening to Ender's Game but this book ended my interest in the Ender series.
Long winded and a rather soft ending.
Read Ender's game and hold up there.
