The year is 1546. Europe lives in fear of the powerful Islamic empire to the East. Under its charismatic Sultan, Suleiman the Magnificent, it is an empire on the rise. It has defeated Christian fleets. It has conquered Christian cities. Then the Sultan sends out an invitation to every king in Europe: send forth your champion to compete in a tournament unlike any other. We follow the English delegation, selected by King Henry VIII himself, to the glittering city of Constantinople, where the most amazing tournament ever staged will take place.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Elizabeth is my favourite character as she is brave and willing to learn about the realities of life in all its horror, and is not naive as Elsie was.

What about Lucy Gaskell’s performance did you like?

Lucy Gaskell did a wonderful job and I love her British accent.

Who was the most memorable character of The Tournament and why?

The most memorable character is Elsie, Bessie' s friend. Her naivete, the way she discusses her sexual relations with Bessie and the trouble she eventually finds herself in are all memorable moments in The Tournament.

At the close of Wilbur Smith's best-selling Monsoon, Tom Courtney and his brother, Dorian, battled on the high seas and finally reached the Cape of Good Hope to start life afresh.

In this spellbinding new novel, the next generation of Courtneys are out to stake their claim in Southern Africa, travelling along the infamous "Robber's Road". It is a journey both exciting and hazardous, that takes them through the untouched wilderness of a beautiful land filled with warring tribes and wild animals.

This is the third book following Bird's of Prey and Monsoon. It tells the story of three generations of Courtney's, and their struggles with each other, the Dutch, Muslims and the wilds of Africa. Tim Piggott-Smith delivers a brilliant performance. This Courtney series is Wilbur Smith at his best.

This is the brilliant sequel to When the Lion Feeds. After leaving the Witwatersrand with his son Dirk, Sean Courtneymeets Ruth Friedman and together they escape into British held territory during the Boer War. They go their separate ways, and Sean joins the British Army after a brief return home to Ladyburg. He battles against his brother in law Jan Paulis who leads a small troop of Boer soldiers, eventually after the two have several encounters the war ends in peace. Sean returns home to marry Ruth whose husband Saul has died during the war. Garry continues his jealousy and hatred of Sean culminating in a climatic horse race between Michael and Dirk Courtney, in which the result could determine Garry's fate. Brilliantly narrated once again by John Lee, Wilbur Smith's The Sound of Thunder is a great listen and read.

When the Lion Feeds is a definite classic. Wilbur Smith's first published novel and still one of his best. It tells the story of Sean Courtenay from late childhood with his twin brother Garry, to his making it rich on the Witwatersrand and then losing it all, to his hunting elephants for ivory and getting rich again, to his marriage and birth of his son Dirk and his return to Witwatersrand and the tragic conclusion to a great novel. John Lee delivers a brilliant performance which enhances the already brilliant story. A great read and listen for Wilbur Smith fans. I hope more of Wilbur Smith's novels become available on Audible in the near future.

The chilling phenomenon begins again. On a summer night the dead body of a woman is found on board an abandoned pleasure boat drifting around in the Stockholm archipelago. Her lungs are filled with brackish water, but there are no traces of this water on her clothes or other parts of her body. Detective Inspector Joona Linna takes up the case. Forensics state that it was a simple drowning, that she must have been pulled aboard the boat which explains the lack of brackish water.

Pericles "Perry" Christo is a P.I. with a past. A one-time NYPD homicide cop, Perry has been struggling since he lost his badge, and his marriage, in a notorious corruption scandal. So when wealthy Upper East Side matron Julia Drusilla calls him one cold February night, he jumps at the chance to work what seems to be a straightforward (and lucrative) case. Julia needs Perry to track down the whereabouts of her beautiful yet aimless daughter, Angelina, who is about to become a very wealthy young heiress.

This is a great story but the performance of Christopher Evan Welch could have been better. It is a story about a dying rich woman who hires the disgraced ex-detective Perry to find her missing daughter before it is too late. Not all is as it seems though and soon Perry is caught in a webs of deceit, family secrets and murder. The proceeds of this book go to a great cause in Safe Horizons, an organisation dedicated to helping families and victims of crime.

The Third Kingdom is a brilliant sequel to The Omen Machine by Terry Goodkind. Sam Tsoutsouvas gives his usual great performance that makes it an enjoyable listen and even more enjoyable read. Richard and Kahlan are touched by death after escaping the Hedge Maid Jit. Richard discovers he must end prophecy, and Nicci, Zed and Cara have been captured by Hannis Arc. All this and more makes The Third Kingdom a spine chilling sequel to The Omen Machine.

Richard discovers The Omen Machine after the sky falls in. Is the omen machine evil or just been exploited by evil people. Another great performance by Sam Tsoutsouvas and while The Omen Machine by Terry Goodkind is not as good as The Sword of Truth books it is still an enjoyable and fantastic read.
