I would recommend this audio book to anyone with young children who would like an excellent tale for a bedtime story. Let's face it most children's stories out there are pathetic. This is a brilliant story and is well written by Tolkien (originally for his own children). The narration is also well done.
When the September's tail is bitten.
I have listened to his narration of Tolkien 's Father Christmas Letters and that was great as well, but can be a little slow. Derek Jacobi is an excellent narrator.
The Ice Dragon is a brilliant tale that would be an ideal introduction to epic fantasy for children. Set in the same world as his Song of Ice and Fire series, The Ice Dragon tells the story of a Winter child and an Ice Dragon. Together they save their country from the advancing enemy and their dragons. Brilliant narration by Maggi Meg Reed makes the book easy to follow and listen to.
River God by Wilbur Smith is a story written from the point of view of Taita, an Egyptian eunuch slave. It is a tale of love, war, betrayal and some of the bloody history which made Egypt the great nation it once was. Great narration by Dick Hill helps bring the story alive.
A killer from Tempes past is back. Tempe is called to help on a cold case. 2 child murders and Anne Pomerleau is determined to be the killer based on DNA evidence. Tempe tracks down her sometime beau Andrew Ryan to help, who is living a self imposed exile, after the death of his daughter. What they uncover is even more horrifying then anyone could imagine. The Temperance Brennan series by Kathy Reichs is an amazing series. Katherine Borowitz delivers a brilliant performance of Bones Never Lie.
Tempe Brennan is supposed to be on holiday in Florida, human remains are discovered in the stomach of a python, so I guess its swamp and snakes for Tempe. Katherine Borowitz's performance of the audio book is brilliant.
Bones of the Lost by Kathy Reichs, features the suspicious death of an Afghani citizen. The killer is an American soldier, but did he do it in self defence or was it murder? Tempe Brennan is called on to look at the body of the dead Afghani citizen and concludes that the Soldier killed in self defence. Tempe returns home, but then gets caught up in an investigation of a human trafficking case, Afgahni girls are been smuggled into the USA. A brilliant story that was inspired by Kathy Reichs' daughter's work with victims of sexual assault and highlights the atrocities that occur as a result of human trafficking rings. Linda Emond once again delivers a great performance of the audio book.
Bones in Her Pocket is a great short story that leads us up to the events in Bones of the Lost. If you love dogs you might get a bit squeamish. Tempe investigates an illegal puppy mill in North Carolina after the bones she examines leads her there. A murder of an animal rights activist is investigated. Well narrated by Linda Emond.
Bones are Forever is probably one of the best of the series featuring Tempe Brennan. It tells the story of a young woman who turns up at the hospital. The doctor thinks she has just given birth, but the woman denies it. After the doctor reports this to the police, the bodies of 3 babies are found in her place of residence. A story full of family secrets, greed, prostitution and murder. Well narrated by Linda Emond.
Murder, racism, Nascar and Bones are on the menu in Flash and Bones by Kathy Reichs. As Tempe investigates a John Doe found in landfill at the Nascar track, the FBI and a group of racists calling themselves the Patriot Posse become interested in the investigation. Her main lead turns up dead and a disgraced ex detective is helping Tempe with the investigation. Flash and Bones is well narrated by Linda Emond.
A brilliant conclusion to the Hall of the Dragon King trilogy, Stephen Lawhead' s first fantasy series. Nimrood is back, after he used his dark magic to put his soul into a raven to escape death. Now he is human and stirring up trouble in Mensandor. First he convinces the priests to turn against the Dragon King, and rouse the people against him. He kidnaps King Quentin' s son Gerin, and as a result Quentin loses his faith and his sword, which was put into his hands by the High Lord. A great book, a great series and well narrated by Tim Gregory.
A great story once again. Mortal Remains aka Spider Bones is a brilliant addition to the Tempe Brennan series by Kathy Reichs. This time Tempe is in Hawaii with her sometime beau Andrew Ryan, her daughter Katie and Ryan's drug addict daughter Lily. She investigates the remains of a dead soldier, only John Lowry died in 1968, so how can a person die twice. Lorelei King gives another good performance of the audio book.
