Now that he's married to Merrill Darling, daughter of billionaire financier Carter Darling, attorney Paul Ross has grown accustomed to New York society and all of its luxuries: a Park Avenue apartment, weekends in the Hamptons, bespoke suits. When Paul loses his job, Carter offers him the chance to head the legal team at his hedge fund. Thrilled with his good fortune in the midst of the worst financial downturn since the Great Depression, Paul accepts the position. But Paul's luck is about to shift....

    Story

Slow, slow narrative about the New York City super rich elite and other Wall Street insider stuff.

In the end what you’re left with is a jumbled rehash of the Madoff Ponzi scheme scandal and the story about the main characters remains completely underdeveloped and gets lost in the mix.

The first half of the book was tolerable, but part two was so boring that I found myself hoping someone would die or just get arrested already. There was endless recounting of conversations between characters that quite frankly, I couldn’t care about.

Too many characters. Not enough character development. Weak and over-done story.

As the '20s roared and the Harlem renaissance thrived, a young woman from rural Florida became the toast of literary New York. Jump At The Sun chronicles the passionate life of Zora Neale Hurston (author of Their Eyes Are Watching God), who went from spinning tales on the front porch of a country store to writing prize-winning stories, novels, and plays. Imbued with the rhymes and rhythms of the Jazz Age, Hurston's story reveals a woman's ferocious appetite for life, literature, and love.

I'm a complete sucker for a well-crafted, dramatic audio performance and this one was definitely worth the credit. The production quality was so brilliant that it seemed more like I was watching a play rather than simply listening to a performance. The cast of performers was truly outstanding.

My only complaint----not nearly long enough!

The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.

This is definitely one of my best listens of the year. Jim Dale's narration is spot on-- and the story itself is pure magic with lush description and fascinating characters that you're actually sad to part with by the story's end.

If you enjoy magic, and mystery, or you've enjoyed the beauty of the circus, this book will delight and THRILL you.

I wish they were all this good!

Music has set the tone for most of Zoe Baxter’s life. And it’s music that brings her back to love. When fertility issues lead to a divorce, Zoe throws herself into her career as a music therapist. As an unexpected friendship with a woman slowly blossoms into love, she makes plans for a new life, but to her shock and inevitable rage, some people - even those she loves and trusts most - don’t want that to happen.

    Story

Just to be clear--I HATE writing bad reviews. I truly admire writers for their craft, so it pains me to have to give such a harsh review.

This book moves from sappy melodrama in part 1 to ridiculously preachy courtroom drama in part 2. To add insult to injury, the songs that were written to go along with several sections of the book are just as sappy and mediocre. Two was all I could handle. I skipped forward through the rest.

What went wrong? This book focuses too much on a single issue and not enough on a real story or creating real characters. The ending is so abrupt and silly that I literally groaned out loud and rolled my eyes just as the narrator pronounces dramatically" "The End".

Shallow Characters +Unlikely Plot= Mediocre Story
