Domestic Enemies: The Reconquista is a novel set in the not-too-distant future in the American Southwest, during a period of low-intensity civil war. The action takes place between Texas and California, but the story is mainly centered around New Mexico. Domestic Enemies: The Reconquista is a sequel to Enemies Foreign and Domestic, but it may be enjoyed on its own.

The USS Kentucky - a Trident ballistic missile submarine carrying a full complement of 192 nuclear warheads - sets out on a routine cruise. Not long after it reaches the open sea, however, the Kentucky receives a launch order. After receiving that launch order, it is cut off from all counter orders and disappears into the Pacific while it makes the eight-day transit to the launch site. What the Kentucky's crew doesn't know is that those launch orders didn't come from the US government.

    It’s a little anti-Semitic or at least anti-Israel.

The parts that are on the submarine are ok , maybe even pretty good. Few silly fact mistakes. You will NEVER find a Llama pistol on a US Navy Submarine – they issue Beretta M9’s or MAYBE Sig Saur M11’s. It’s a magazine not a clip, here endth the gun guy rant.

The stuff in Washington was pretty awful to listen to. A lot like really bad crime / spy fiction.

Not bad enough to return but not really good either

Very dark – very scary. All too real. I fear it’s not a matter of if this happens but when.

This is not a pleasant listen. It is all too real but every man should listen to this book and spend some quiet time thinking, ‘What would I do if….’

    Story

I would have rated it lower but I have an irrational reaction to pot use. Also the narrator was like fingernails on a chalk board to me. This isn’t the usual prepper fiction and in that way it’s quite good. It also doesn’t use the EMP to start the end of the world so that’s good.

The story has a lot more character development that your average end of the world fiction. There is a predictable love story between the old people. I think a lot of the book is from the female prospective and that’s a needed thing.

It doesn’t get to be too full of lists like a lot of prepper fiction does so that's good.

She gets way preachy about several topics.

High Fructose Corn Syrup – it’s just sugar, too much of it will make you fat. It doesn’t taste as good as the real stuff either.

GMO crops – here’s where she really comes off the rails. GMO is really no different than hybrid crops that have been around forever. The bans other countries put on it have more to do with protecting local farmers and commodity prices or other trade issues than anything else.

It goes on, and on and on and on and on and on. Oh and it does go on a bit.

There is one hysterical firearms error in the book. She speaks of shooting a 1” group at 500 yards. If you’re a gun person you get it if not it won’t matter to you.

It’s not a bad book and it’s different than other prepper stuff out there. I’ll probably get the next one.

A brief, but insightful look at history shows the evolution of combat, the development of the physical and psychological leverage that enables humans to kill other humans, followed by an objective examination of domestic violence in America.
