First published by H. G. Wells in 1898, The War of the Worlds is the granddaddy of all alien invasion stories. The novel begins ominously, as the lone voice of a narrator intones, "No one would have believed in the last years of the 19th century that this world was being watched keenly and closely by intelligences greater than man's."

    Janice says: "Ants"
    "Great story. Great read."

Having never read "The War of the Worlds," I thought it was about time. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and the narration.

At least one-third of the people we know are introverts. They are the ones who prefer listening to speaking, reading to partying; who innovate and create but dislike self-promotion; who favor working on their own over brainstorming in teams. Although they are often labeled "quiet," it is to introverts that we owe many of the great contributions to society--from van Gogh’s sunflowers to the invention of the personal computer.

Teddy says: "Thought provoking and Uplifting.... A++++++++!!!!!"
"Being an introvert is a good thing!"

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This is an excellent book for those who consider themselves shy, introverted, or social misfits. It is especially useful for parents who think their child may have a social setback that needs fixing.

Listen / read this book and you may just feel that being labeled an introvert is a badge of honor and desirable.

PS. I would like extroverts to also read this book so that they may better understand others whose minds and sensitivities just don't work the same way as theirs.

Why we think it’s a great listen: It’s easy to say that when it comes to sci-fi you either love it or you hate it. But with Ender’s Game, it seems to be you either love it or you love it.... The war with the Buggers has been raging for a hundred years, and the quest for the perfect general has been underway for almost as long. Enter Andrew "Ender" Wiggin, the result of decades of genetic experimentation.

Kapila says: "6 titles in the series so far"
    "Very engaging story and narration."

This was a great book for a 16-hour drive. The voice acting is top notch and the story is excellent.

There is a new version out, and a quick read of reviews indicates that much is cut. I can't really imagine what this story would be like with over four hours less content. There are multiple narrators in this version - all excellent - that add variety and great story telling.
