With a career, a boyfriend, and a loving family, Piper Kerman barely resembles the reckless young woman who delivered a suitcase of drug money 10 years ago. But that past has caught up with her. Convicted and sentenced to 15 months at the infamous federal correctional facility in Danbury, Connecticut, the well-heeled Smith College alumna is now inmate #11187-424 - one of the millions of women who disappear "down the rabbit hole" of the American penal system.

What would have made Orange is the New Black better?

I had higher expectations of a funny and racy story (based on the TV show) and I thought that the book would have more stories beyond what they would show on TV but man was this book boring. Nothing really stood out and the story was lacking.

Would you ever listen to anything by Piper Kerman again?

    Probably not.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The reader was clear and didn't really smack their lips when they talked like other readers. Too bad the story was boring.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

lack of fulfillment. fell like I wasted a few hours on this.

    Any additional comments?

Like I said, it you love the cheeky and crude laughs from the TV show, don't read the book. Keep watching the show because it is more entertaining. If you want to know the real story, then read the book. I personally just did not like it.

Pirriwee Public's annual school Trivia Night has ended in a shocking riot. One parent is dead. The school principal is horrified. As police investigate what appears to have been a tragic accident, signs begin to indicate that this devastating death might have been cold-blooded murder. In this thought-provoking novel, number-one New York Times best-selling author Liane Moriarty deftly explores the reality of parenting and playground politics, ex-husbands and ex-wives, and fractured families.

I am not a big fan of mysteries because they make me too anxious. But! this book was great! The story was told from so many different sides that it always kept you guessing.

Seventeen-year-old Bianca Piper is cynical and loyal, and she doesn’t think she’s the prettiest of her friends by a long shot. She’s also way too smart to fall for the charms of man-slut and slimy school hottie Wesley Rush. In fact, Bianca hates him. And when he nicknames her “the Duff,” she throws her Coke in his face. But things aren’t so great at home right now, and Bianca is desperate for a distraction. She ends up kissing Wesley. Worse, she likes it.

What did you like best about this story?

This is a new view on the chubby friend story. Made for today's teens.

    Any additional comments?

This should be required reading for young teens to give them the perspective of the "friend" in every group. It will hopefully give others confidence it they are in the same situation. Overall a fun book.

It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?

If you could sum up Gone Girl in three words, what would they be?

    Suspenseful but disappointing

What was most disappointing about Gillian Flynn’s story?

The most disappointing part of “Gone Girl” was the ending! It was like all this time was taken in creating this story that I was sucked into and then the publisher said, “You’re out of time and we need the book done tomorrow” and Flynn just wrote the last two chapters in 5 minutes and disregarded everything else in the book! I would have loved if the characters went to court or someone was murdered. It feels like a real cop out.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

My first reaction was to have Nick just die and get his @$$ handed to him. Then I just wanted Amy to die a horrible death. Then the ending gave me the most emotional reaction – pissed.

    Any additional comments?

All in all, I loved this book. I heart was pumping the entire time! But when it came to the last couple chapters I wanted to punch someone. It is worth reading but be prepared to be disappointed

Witness her transformation as you enter a world where appearances are paramount, virginity is auctioned to the highest bidder, women beguile powerful men, and love is scorned as illusion.

If you could sum up Memoirs of a Geisha in three words, what would they be?

    Magnificent
    Elegant
    Whimsical

What did you like best about this story?

Everything. Couldn't tell you if it is too historically accurate but I reminds me of my mother who grew up in Japan. I have read through this book twice now and it never gets old. The story makes me home sick for the "traditional" Japan and "old fashioned" times.

    Which scene was your favorite?

    Hatsumomo's fall from grace.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes! holly cow yes.

    Any additional comments?

The move tries to capture the magic of the book but it just does not come close. I love the movie, but I always hate when they stray from the timeline and order of the book. If you like the move, try the book.

All decent parents want to do what's best for their children. What Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother reveals is that the Chinese just have a totally different idea of how to do that. Western parents try to respect their children's individuality, encouraging them to pursue their true passions and providing a nurturing environment. The Chinese believe that the best way to protect your children is by preparing them for the future and arming them with skills, strong work habits, and inner confidence.

Where does Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This sits in the middle of my list but I really identify with the "eastern" way of raising a child since that is how I was raised.

    Any additional comments?

If you had a traditional "eastern" parent then you will really identify with this book. If you have had close friends as a child who where Asian then you will see a lot of familiar things with their parents.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would recommend this book to my friends who love romantic books. I liked it but the story was just too....standard romance novel. Their in love, their not in love, and it flip flops the entire book.

Would you be willing to try another book from Sue Moorcroft? Why or why not?

    I may.

What does Julie Teal bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The book was read beautifully and the narrator was very expressive.

Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

Who was the most memorable character of Water for Elephants and why?
