The beauty of Red Square is not necessarily in the story, but in the story telling and description of the soviet republic. Smith's prose is exceptionally enjoyable and the world view he presents through the mind of Arkady Renko is absolutely one of a kind. Cruz Smith's writing is truly about the journey, not necessarily the destination.
Great character development. In my opinion this is a more enjoyable storyline than some other of Cruz Smith's books. The characters are rich and the plot line is revealing and satisfying in the end. Another excellent work that is superbly performed.
I would highly recommend this book. There is simply nothing like Donal Sutherland reading the classic novel about the old man Santiago. An exceptionally enjoyable listening experience. Rarely have I heard a performance so perfectly matched to the subject matter.
